Hello everyone, my wife Susan and I attended the first meeting in
Crystal lake and found it informative and are looking forward to the
next meeting. I'm not sure how most of you feel but we have been
researching autism and asperger's syndrome for the past few years and
have received many conflicting bits and pieces of info. The one thing
that we have found is that each child is different and what works for
one does not always work for another. The main thing is that if we all
put our heads together we may each find something that someone else is
doing that will work for our children. Our son has been diagnosed with
asperger's and turett's syndrome. An interesting combination. He is
high functioning but many times a day he is not in the same world as
we are. He is constantly making noises or talking and repeating
cartoon shows or imaginary friends.
If we could find a way to help anyone, or possibly help put pressure
on Springfield for fuding at a school level we are more than willing.
We are also looking for a manageable way to get together with other
parents so we can vent our frustrations with schools, funding, people
staring in public, the toll on the other family members, avoiding
meltdowns and the screaming fits and also the trouble between mom and
dad over how to deal or correct the child with out conflict. I'm sorry
for running on about this but there is much to say and much to do.
Thanks, Douglas and Susan Brant
