Re: McHenry County Autism Support Group Special needs ministry

Thanks so much Shannon.  It seems that many of us have the desire to open our arms and our churches to families with special needs.  You seem to be really making this happen at Springbrook.  May you continue to be blessed in this mission and bless all the folks who enter your doors.  Although I am active in my own church, Prince of Peace Lutheran, I may just try to stop by and see what you have going.  We can always learn from each other.
God bless,
Nyle Potthast (Spencer's mom)

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't had the opportunity to meet many of you.  Unfortunately the timing of the meetings has been bad for me.  I am very excited though about a ministry I started over a year ago at Springbrook Community church.  Springbrook just finished building a new ministry center on Algonquin Road across from Tom's Market in Huntley/Lake in the Hills.  The special needs ministry now has our very own room with a capacity of 27!  I am so excited.  If any of you are looking for a church that has a place for your children, we welcome you.  One of the things I am hoping to do now that we have our own space, is to expand our ministry.  Right now we only offer care during the 9am service on Sunday morning but in the coming year, I hope to expand that to include care during our 11 am service.  Also, I would really like to start a respite care night for special needs kids and their siblings.  This would be a night that parents could drop off their kids from say 5pm to 10:30pm for a respite night.  We would provide care, games etc. for the kids at no charge.  It would be donation only if the parents felt led to do so.  It would be open to anyone in the community.  I would like to start this in the summer and to begin with having it once a quarter, building it up to maybe once a month.  Would this be something any of you would use or would like to see happen in McHenry county.  Also as the leader of this ministry, I am open to suggestions of other things we could do to meet any unmet needs in McHenry county.  So please e-mail and let me know what you would like to see.  I am so excited about this next year and what is starting to happen and the building is absolutely beautiful.  May I just say even if you never plan on attending Springbrook, if you have a chance sometime during the week, stop in and see this ministry center, it is so awesome.

Take care
