OUR LIVING EARTH AND HOW WE LOST OUR ROOTS

Have you ever bothered yourself with what Earth means for you? Have you ever witnessed Her magnificent beauty and divinity? Have you ever heard her heart, that is in sync with yours? Have you received her healing touch and her love springing through ever living thing on Her?

It is a bitter truth that in the western civilization we have long forgotten our Mother Earth. We lost our roots deep in the Earth and with those our physical well-being, our positive mental outlook, and our dormant spiritual possibility to attain self-realization. We have long lost our connection with the natural world, isolating ourselves in the high fences of separation and egoism.

High time it is that humanity saw itself as children and students of the living Earth, not her adversaries and would-be conquerors. She is always there, nourishing us, protecting us, ever waiting for our love, and we must learn to love, hug, respect her. She has offered so many to us, yet we remain ungrateful and threatening towards Her, destroying her body.

Modern man has forgotten that everything he has is actually not his, but come from Earth. Earth has provided the primal man food, protection, a place where he would grow to become the great civilization and the different nations. All our food comes, directly or indirectly, from the energy of the Sun and the Earth merged together. In Earth's body all sorts of wonderful plants grow, some of them edible, others that can be used to treat all sorts of diseases, others offer us pleasure through their beauty. Man and animals of the Earth, along with plants live on a delicate balance, that is beautiful all by itself. This natural circle is the nourisher of our physical being.

The nature of Earth relaxes us, comforts our worries.  Our body is the temple with which we connect to Earth and to each other. From our life on Earth we have learned to admire the beauty of Creation, that led us to the seeking of the Creator of all Life. Thus, the different religions came to spring, each one seeking the divine in its own unique way.

On an energetic basis, the Earth grounds and nourishes our energies. That means that She Absorbs the negative energies from our auric fields providing us with Her powerful and healing energies in return. Our root and soles chakras regulate the energy exchange between us and the living Earth. Grounding is essential for our physical well being and spiritual evolution. The energy of the Earth brings us to Here and Now, allowing us to become conscious of the real nature of Being.  Furthermore, the constant flow of Earth energy activates kundalini shakti, the serpentine goddess energy that once awakened, pierces through each chakra, blooming it to its full form. Eventually with her merging on crown chakra with her divine consort Shiva, man attains the perfection in yoga, liberation from duality and direct experience of the Truth. The word "muladhara" , which is the sanskrit name for root chakra  interestingly means "root foundation". To have the proper foundation for the long journey upwards, one must have roots deep in the Earth.

Ancient civilizations were well aware of the  importance of the Living Earth and our sacred duty to take care of and love her, the same way we would do with our physical mother. In Ancient Atlantis, she was known as Danui, and she was worshipped through rituals connecting her energies with the universal energies, to provide all with Love and Healing. Atlanteas used crystals, the live body of mother Earth to protect themselves and promote their spiritual development. Native Americans are also known for their love to the Earth and to every plant, rock and animal that lives on Her. Big Thunder (Bedagi) Wabanaki Algonquin, a native American once said: "The Great Spirit is in all things, he is in the air we breathe. The Great Spirit is our Father, but the Earth is our Mother. She nourishes us, that which we put into the ground she returns to us....". So powerful was American Indians' connection to Earth that Wovoka states with bitterness: "You ask me to plow the ground. Shall I take a knife and tear my mother's bosom? Then when I die she will not take me to her bosom to rest.'' Druidry and paganism that bloomed around the world, and especially ancient England take great care in the protection of the Earth and connect to Her through magical rituals and Her trees.  In Hinduism, the Earth is worshipped as the manifestation of the Great Divine Mother, Adi Shakti. In India there are vedic hymns dedicate to Earth, more than three thousand years old.  She represents the feminine crative energy, the Mother, who nourishes and protect her children. Kundalini shakti is the powerful cleansing power awakened by the Earth energy through the Muladhara, to bring one to spiritual completion.

If Earth is of so much importance, how did we come to loose our connection to her? To start with, this is due to our greed. Seeing that the Earth provided everything in abundance, man, in his ego delirium, thought that he could exploit everything on Earth to gain more and more money. As Gandhi said, ''Earth has enough for our needs, but not enough for our greed''. Earth's pain is now becoming humanity's pain. We ignored the dark side of development and we continue to do so today. This has led to an ecological disaster and the violent change in climate that we experience today.

Besides, many spiritual traditions do not include Earth in their practice, rejecting it as "pagan" or "idolatry".  Often spiritual seekers, tend to work with their higher chakras, often neglecting that the lower chakras do not represent lower desires, but our primal instincts, that are the part of ourself with which we begin our exploration. With every certainty, the love and protection of Earth is necessary in one's daily life.

Furthermore, in western societies, we often lack the education and the cultivation of ecological awareness. Where greed and hate exist, love for the Earth and Her protection is regarded as something that is obsolete or nearly idealistic.

To regain our connection to the Earth essential in today's world.
The Earth Mother is alive: We humans have to feel Her, hug Her, listen to Her, and most important, protect Her for She is our Mother. She is a living organism that nourishes and sustains us. We have to transcend our debilitating ignorance, our destructive lifestyles, our cold selfishness, and transform ourselves into higher beings of Collective Consciousness. We must awaken from the long spiritual slumber to receive Her Loving Energies. To connect with the Earth is really simple; all One needs to do is to take off his shoes and hug a tree or touch the ground with the intend that this Love provides protection and healing for our beloved Mother. Sending reiki, grounding through the activation of the root and soles chakras, and magical rituals are all effective tools to promote our connection with the living Earth.

Blessed be Children and Students of the Living Earth!

In Love and Light,
Andreas
