Hi gang...

I'm new to the group and just read thru the diet. Did I read that
correctly? I have to eat all that, and I'm still going to lose
weight?? Seriously? I need to lose about 50 pounds. I've started
exercising some, mostly weight training, altho I did add about 2
minutes of aerobic exercise tonite. I was worn out after 2 minutes,
so that should tell you I am way out of shape. With the grapefruit
juice, does it have to be regular grapefruit, or can it be like a
Ruby Red, or something along those lines? I don't normally eat
breakfast, I never have. How badly will that affect this diet?
Sorry for so many questions, any and all answers appreciated!

Vicki

desktops, but also on handhelds, such as Palm and PocketPC devices.
The name of the application is HealthEngage Diet+Fitness. Has anyone
tried it? If so, what is your opinon?

My wife and I went on this diet. We both lost 35
pounds in 3 months. It was easy for me, but I missed
the occasional beer. It was more difficult for my
wife since she really likes carbs. Really helps if
both of you are on the diet for the added support.
For us, the difficult times were at parties and family
get togethers. But after we told our friends about
it, they were always very supportive (still difficult
turning down the beer and deserts). I really took
advantage of the 2 days off, which may have slowed my
progress, but allowd me to keep my sanity. We've gone
off the diet for the holidays, but plan to go back
after the holidays. My wife went on the weight
watchers plan after this diet to try to loss more
weight by counting calories. While she was able to
maintain, she wasn't lossing. We really beleive in
this plan and strictly stuck to it. It worked for us.

good luck.

So if other fruits work, which ones are they and how much do u need to eat? Can
you eat 3 different fruits in one day or should you eat the same fruit for the 3
meals one day and then switch to another if you want to the next day? I am
starting the diet in a couple of weeks, when my semester classes end so i'm
looking for as much information as possible before i start. Thanks Everyone

SIGH-I've read LOTS of nutritional books, had gestational diabetes and had
to work with a Hospital Dietician, and I can assure you that there is
nothing magical about grapefruits. Sorry to burst your bubble there, LOL. If
someone is having severe reactions to grapefruit, there is NO reason they
can't use another fruit, and keep the rest of the diet the same. If you
personally can handle the grapefruit 3 times a day forever, then God bless
you. Not everyone has a cast iron stomach. Not to mention the lack of
variety. Try to think longterm here, folks. If you bother looking up the
carb counts for grapefruit, and other fruits, then you can see that many
fresh fruits could be interchanged. We need a variety of nutrients, and
grapefruits do not have all the vast spectrum of vitamins that our bodies
need over the LONGTERM. If you don't believe me, ASK your Doctor-I'm sure
he/she will agree, as MINE DID.

HELLO!
I'm currently not dieting right now, but I have never heard of substituting
the grapefruit juice with something else. It seems as though the grapefruit
juice is the very heart of the diet. It is the catalyst in the fat burning
process. This is what seems to be true to me. Please check it out with a
professional if you can. Maybe you can contact a dietician from your local
hospital, or maybe someone from the group could give some helpful info. I
pray all be well with you, and if this diet isn't for you, that you find what
is best. Take care.
Terrie :)

I would like to hear from those of you that are doing this diet but
substituting the grapefruit for another fruit. I would like to hear
if your weight loss is the same as the others taking grapefruit. I
personally, cannot drink grapefruit juice, so I want to try it with
other fruits.

Thanks

Well, I'm thinking of giving this diet a THIRD shot thanks to Kathy's
advice of dropping the grapefruit juice and substituting with other
fruit! LOL! Since gf juice tears up my stomach! Ok, so I would
love to know everyone's personal experience with this diet. How much
did you lose and over how much time? I will need "motivational"
thinking while on it! If I know it has been a success then I will be
more apt to stick to it knowing it really works! Thanks!

I have to do this cause on one of my pills it says do not eat grapefruit or
drink grapefruit juice.

I am not trying to lose any weight, just maintaining at this point...esp.
through the holidays!! I lost my weight all last year, before last
Thanksgiving [after my 3rd baby reached 2 1/2]. I had gone down from 165 [at
delivery]to 142 within 2 weeks [without any real effort, also was nursing a
lot so that helped burn up a LOT]. Then I kinda just stayed between 140-144
for a while {was nursing fulltime and was really quite hungry, and didn't
care about my weight, I knew that eventually she would nurse less and less].
Then one day about a month before 9-11, a little bell went off in my head
and I wanted to lose some weight. So I started a diet very similar to this
one, and lost the rest. So for the last year I've been at 125 or so, and I
accept that it's prolly where my body is happy for now. Before I had kids I
was VERY thin [almost too thin, looking back!}and weighed 118 or so. I
remember being always hungry. NOw I don't care anymore-I'm in a range that's
considered normal on all the charts, I look decent in my clothes and my DH
is loving me regardless [what a great guy!]. So that's my story.

For best results, stick to the 4 ozs. Otherwise you will be getting too many
carbs and not lose weight. IF you like the taste so much try drinking some
diet grapefruit soda!! like Fresca...my favorite.

Hi, My name is Vicki and I'm 46 years old. I'm currently 160 lbs and
would like to be around 140 lbs. To most this wouldn't seem like a
lot but for years I was 135 lbs or less. I only put on a lot of
weight after my marriage in 1996. I gained up to 189 lbs. Since Dec.
26-2001 I've been trying to get the weight back off and I have gotten
this far, with a lot of yo yo-ing. But it gets to the point where I
feel I'm not getting anywhere, or what's the point.I know that's not the way to
feel and I've joined numerous groups looking for the one group I'll feel
comfortable in and can talk things out. I hope this is that group.
Feel free to ask questions and I'll answer back best I can.
Vicki

Wow really? How long did you substitute the apple for the grapefruit? I am
having a hard day again today. I feel so hopeless with it and then I turn
to food for comfort. It is a vicious circle! I had such a bad taste in my
mouth the first day too. But if I could substitute the grapefruit juice,
that would make a big difference. I thought the grapefruit juice was the
key ingredient though? Because of the acid. How long have you been on the
diet? You are a lifesaver. Thanks for your info. Looking forward to
hearing from you!

Stacy, have you simply tried chewing on a Tums after meals? Or you can take
1 tablet of Pepcid AC. during my entire 3 pregnancies, I had heartburn very
very badly, 24/7-the Pepcid was a lifesaver when then finally approved it
during pregnancy. OR you can substitute half of a large apple or half a cup
of other fruit for the grapefruit. I have done this and it didn't make a
difference. There is nothing magical about the grapefruit-half a grapefruit
has approximately 9-10 grams of carbohydrates, and if you were to sub
another fresh fruit that equaled the same amount of carbs, you could expect
the same results. DO NOT eat any canned fruit, however, cuz it's usually
loaded with sugar. Avoid bananas-they are too high in carbs too.

I bombed on this diet already. : ( I think my stomach can't handle all the
acid in the grapefruit juice. I kept having like "acid reflux" symptoms.
I felt very nauseaus too a few times. I wish I could have done this. I am
very desperate to lose this weight. I have about 30 lbs. to lose. Does
anyone know of any other diet that has similiar weight loss? I'm so tired
of feeling frumpy too. I just got a divorce in August and I feel like if I
ever lose this weight I can actually get back out in the social world and
maybe start meeting new friends and stuff. UGH. Please help!

Stacy

The amount you lose varies a LOT from person to person. Anywheres from just
2 lbs. to 10 lbs. in a week. I would NOT ever believe that it could be the
same for each person, that's just plain silly. BUT this IS a great way to
get going on weight loss and start to get better habits overall.

I think you will lose better if you can exercise. Yes, I think a lot is
water, and your bowels are all filled up too-this will flush out when you go
back on the diet. Hmmmm, well, you could have bacon sometimes, but maybe not
all the time and certainly not right before or during your cycle. You could
also buy the low-sodium bacon, it's not quite so salty.
