Greetings, All.
First I would like to say that learning about the dangers of an
eating disorder are important -- but will not stop the hardcore
eating disordered. The anorexic/bulimic person desires to be thin
above all else, it consumes their very person, all actions, thoughts
and emotions are influenced by it. Even knowing all of the dangers of
EDs, most ED persons will continue their destructive lifestyle --
unaffected by the knowledge. The point is, thinness is more important
than living -- and the ED person will literally die to be thin.
Although educating one's self on eating disorders is very important,
seeking competent ED treatment is paramount. Your husband should find
an ED specialist. The internet has many resources for the eating
disordered. Try www.edreferral.com, www.somethingfishy.com, &
www.anred.com.
It is incredibly important that you take his affliction seriously.
Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate among mental
illnesses, even with proper mental health treatment. The chance of
death and/or permanent disability increases much more if one does not
persue the proper avenues for treatment.
Finding help for your husband and convincing him to enter treatment
is the best and only thing you can do for him.
