In normal men, sperm counts vary from 20 million to 200 million sperm
per milliliter of ejaculate. Sperm counts of less than 3 million sperm
per milliliter, a condition called severe oligozoospermia, are
associated with low rates of pregnancy (8.1 pregnancies per 100 men with
such sperm counts) while a sperm count of zero--azoospermia--would
result in no pregnancies [World Health Organization Task Force on
methods for the regulation of male fertility, 1996]. Effectiveness of
male contraceptive methods is determined by sperm count as well as
motility--how well the sperm can move.
I am unsure how you would actually be able to count how many millions of
sperm in a milliliter without expensive equipment.
