Calcium channel blockers are a potential source of non-hormonal male
contraceptives. We need to learn more about them. Keep in mind that many
potential contraceptives are found by accident and we only know about them
because people who were trying to conceive went to clinics to find out
what was wrong. Research that helps us understand human reproduction can
be useful for designing contraceptives even if it was originally designed
and funded for fertility. A great example of this is the journal
Fertility and Sterility. Most of it is about fertility treatments, but
finding out what causes sterility is very helpful, particularly if we can
induce it and reverse it at will.
