Dear friends,

As coaches, members or stakeholders, you have all been involved in Malaria Competence or are interested in working with it. For your interest, we have a few contributions that we think are particularly useful for both implementing –at scale- the approach as well as learning from others:

1.       CSS Guidelines for Global Fund. During the recent Geneva meeting on ‘Malaria Control and Community Systems Strengthening’, the participants developed a new set of useful guidelines on including CSS (amongst which Malaria Competence) to the Global Fund Round 9 submission. Apologies for cross-posting to some of you.

2.       MACEPA evaluation. The final version of the MACEPA (PATH) external evaluation of Malaria Competence can be accessed through this link - http://www.rollbackmalaria.org/toolbox/docs/rbmtoolbox/MalariaCommunityCompetence.pdf

3.       Malaria Competence website. With support of RBM, Phil Forth and Jean Legastelois have documented the progress on Malaria Competence in Togo and The Gambia. Please find the well documented results and video’s on www.malariacompetence.org.  This is also a great inspiration for future implementers and provides good advice on sustainability and delivery mechanisms.

4.       Future strategy. There exist a large opportunity for Malaria Competence to spread. It’s time to transform this into real change. We need your ideas, experience and support in this. A first start of our strategy, you can find attached through Jean-Louis’ report after the Geneva meeting. Please provide suggestions or comments on this. You are invited to share this on our......

5.       Ning group on Malaria Competence. Our Global virtual home on ‘Competence’ www.aidscompetence.ning.com has launched a special group on Malaria. Here we discuss the future strategy and share experiences or ask questions on anything related to Malaria Competence. Click here to subscribe to the group.

6.       World Malaria Day. On the 25th of April, we invite communities around the world to do their self-assessment on Malaria! We also invite you to do this with your colleagues, families or friends. The CFT will do it this afternoon with all Thai coaches. Please click here to find the details of the worldwide effort and the self-assessment framework.

I am looking forward to hear your ideas and suggestions.

Best regards,

Gaston Schmitz
