When Belgium learns from DR-Congo

From 6 to 13 June, Eric Ngabala, Congolese facilitator of RDC Competence, was in Belgium to share his experience with the Belgian facilitation team. "So much sharing of experiences and lessons learned in one week! This is enough to change the whole way of doing of an attentive man, to change my way of doing."

RDC Competence: 92 facilitators and more than 101 invitations to SALT visits

 Communities in the whole country invite RDC Competence to conduct SALT visits and to facilitate self-assessments of AIDS competence. Young people, pastors, People Living with HIV, policemen, militaries, NGO, sex workers, villages and many others discuss the HIV issue and how this concerns them in their own life. The Congolese facilitation team of the AIDS Competence Process evaluate the progress after a year.

Vita, fight for life, 20 years with aids

Juvénal Ntandikiye was 26 in the winter of 1988. From Burundi's origin, he studied architecture in China. One day, a group of policemen entered the class rooms, grabbed him and threw him in jail without any explanation. A few days later the Burundi's Ambassador in Peking told him that he was HIV positive. Persona non grate in China, Juvénal was then repatriated as quickly as possible to Burundi. 

Imprisoned in his own silence for 4 years, Juvénal finally decided to speak openly about his disease. He creates the National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS (ANSS) in Burundi. In May 1994, Juvénal was nominated representative of Central Africa during the first conference of the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) dedicated to the creation of networks of PLHIV.

Juvénal tells us his life story in his book « Vita, fight for life (Vita, combat pour la vie)», a touching story in which Juvénal invites us to open up the dialogue about HIV.

Quand la Belgique apprend de la RD-Congo

Du 6 au 13 juin, Eric Ngabala, facilitateur congolais de RDC Compétence, s'est rendu en Belgique afin de partager son expérience avec l'équipe belge de facilitation. « Autant  d'échanges d'expériences et d'apprentissages en une semaine ! C'est suffisant pour changer toute la façon de faire d'un homme attentif, pour changer ma façon de faire. »

RDC Compétence : 92 facilitateurs et plus de 101 invitations pour des visites SALT

Des communautés dans tout le pays invitent RDC Compétence à faire des visiter SALT et à faciliter l'autoévaluation des compétences face au sida. Jeunes, pasteurs, séropositifs, policiers, militaires, ONG, professionnels du sexe, villages et tant d'autres discutent enfin du VIH et en quoi cela les concerne dans leur propre vie. L'équipe congolaise de facilitation du Processus de la Compétence face au SIDA fait le point après un an.

Vita, combat pour la vie, 20 ans avec le sida

Juvénal Ntandikiye avait 26 ans en cet hiver de 1988. D'origine burundaise, il étudiait l'architecture en Chine. Un jour, une meute de policiers a fait irruption en plein cours, ils l'ont empoigné et l'ont jeté dans un cachot sans lui donner d'explications. Quelques jours plus tard il a appris de l'Ambassadeur du Burundi à Pékin qu'il avait le sida. Persona non grata en Chine, Juvénal était rapatrié au plus vite au Burundi.

Emprisonné dans son silence pendant 4 ans, Juvénal décida enfin de parler ouvertement de sa maladie. Il crée alors l'Association Nationale des séropositifs et sidéens (ANSS) au Burundi. En mai 1994, Juvénal sera nommé responsable de l'Afrique Centrale lors de la première conférence du Programme des Nations Unies pour le développement (PNUD) consacrée à la création d'un réseau autour des malades du SIDA.

Juvénal raconte son histoire de vie dans son livre « Vita, combat pour la vie », un récit touchant où Juvénal nous invite à ouvrir la parole face au VIH. A lire absolument.
