Malaria competence workshop in Tanzania   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #278 of 368 |
Dear Friends,
The first workshop that introduced malaria competence process was
held in Zanzibar, Tanzania on 1-5th Aug. The workshop brought
together a big number of NGOs, organizations (incl. WHO), research
institutions, policy makers (incl. malaria program) and other
stakeholders.

Indeed it was wonderful to lead in the faces of participants. The
faces were indicating the highest level of acceptance. The advantage
was the presence of one community in Zanzibar known as Jambiani who
has made a remarkable achievements in the reduction of malaria
prevelance from 40%(3 yrs ago) to less that 5 % now. The experience
from Jambian made life easy during our facilitation and indeed
participants were sharing the successes of Jambian which was our
role model.

The visit to that community indicated how community members are
ethusiastic on involving themselves in addressing health issues
which has transcended from malaria control to other health related
and developmental activities. Indeed the malaria initiatives is now
acting as window of opportunity to other social economic activities.
What a wondeful story!!
my sincere gratitude to Mr Ibrahim Kamara who joined me in the
facilitation team. To WHO who supported Kamara's upkeep in Tanzania,
and to Marlou who networked the who process that made this important
event a reality for the first time in Tanzania. The NGO network
against malaria and the malaria control program were very impresive
with the approach and are looking forward to implement it very soon.

I will share with you the final report which I am about to finish.

Regards,

Clement
