In contrast, the device I use has a central pole surrounded by the alternate polarity, a cylinder surrounded by a ring.
The effects are thought to be due to movement within the steep static field gradients.

You might want to look at what Stefan Engstrom had to say in the
"bioelectromagnetics" newsgroup on this on, as well.
