Well, I was down a half pound, up a half pound, down a half pound, and up a half
pound all week. I ended up being the same as I was on Monday. I didn't lose any
weight, but I did lose 3/4 of an inch.

I'm at that point where I have less than ten pounds to lose to get to my goal
weight, so I have a feeling it's going to come off very slowly. I have 8 pounds
to lose, and this next challenge is 8 weeks long. I'm hoping my body will do 1
pound a week. Then I would finally be at goal! Yay!

For the Valentine's Loser Challenge, I lost a total of 6 pounds and 3.25 inches.
I'm happy to be going down, down, down - even if it is very very slowly. :O)

Hey Caralyn,

It's a good feeling to be on a roll, isn't it? Good for you!

So far, I'm down 6.5 pounds for the Valentine's Challenge. Maybe I can lose a
little more before the final weigh in on Saturday. :o) Thanks for asking.

Here are some tips for starting week one of The Easter Challenge.

Week one:

Make a menu – When you know what you are going to eat for breakfast,
lunch, dinner and snacks, you are less likely to cheat. Look up some
wonderful lowcarb recipes, print them out and put them in a 3-ring
binder. Make a list on a white board or a sheet of paper on your
fridge of every dish and cross it off after you've eaten it. That way
you won't be scrounging around for your recipes when you're trying to
figure out what to make for dinner.

Cook ahead – Take a day and make several meals ahead of time. It
makes it easier to stick with your eating plan when it is ready and
waiting for you to heat it up when you get home from work. If you
have leftovers, put them in containers for your lunch or freeze them
to eat the following week.

Snacks – Make sure you have enough legal snacks for mid-morning,
afternoon, and evening when you get the munchies. Eat things like
chicken wings, celery and sugar free peanut butter, cheese, and nuts.
Just be sure to count everything in your total carbs for the day.

Start Measuring – Don't just rely on the scale to tell you how your
body is changing. Be sure to take your measurements so you know how
many inches you are losing. There will be times when the scale
doesn't budge, but your measurements will almost always go down each
week. This can be very encouraging.

Log your food – Keep a food journal on paper or online at
www.fitday.com. It's a great way to make sure you're not going over
your carb allotment.

Take a "before" picture – Having this to compare yourself to down the
road can really be an eye opener to show you just how much weight you
have lost and how different you look.

Happy lowcarbing!
Vanessa

Here we go! Starting Monday, February 16, we will jump right back into
it with The Easter Challenge! This is an 8-week challenge. Let's see
who can lose the most weight and inches each week.

If you'd like to join, post your goals on Monday. Then each Monday
after that, post how much weight and inches you have lost. You will be
keeping track of your measurements from your waist, hip or abs, thigh,
and arm. You don't need to share your weight or measurments, just
update us on how much you have lost each week. I will keep track and
will post the winners every week, and I'll post the final winner the
day after Easter.

Let's get serious about our health and weight and jump whole-heartedly
into this new challenge. We can start fresh this Monday and commit to
eating healthy and exercising to get ready for spring and to feel the
best that we can!

Good for you! Way to resist and break those habits. During Christmas when I was
cheating (planned), I got into the habit of just grabbing stuff and putting it
into my mouth. Then when I went back on lowcarb, I would have the thought of
grabbing something like corn chips and eating a couple simply out of habit. I
would actually find myself reaching for it in the cupboard, then would snap out
of it. It took a good week or two before I got myself out of that habit.

I'm glad you like your new house! We are in the process of looking for a house.
We live in a 2-bedroom condo now. We adopted our daughter in June, and our place
is pretty small. We're looking forward to having a place of our own and more
room for her to run around.

I had a successful day so far! I came sooo close to NOT but overcame! I
took my 6 yr old and her friend to Wendy's and they gave the girls so many
fires that I knew they wouldn't eat them all so I ate two and then I
STOPPED! I KNEW if I continued, I would have been ruining the whole day. I
ordered a chili for myself and had just that. I really do LOVE that. There
is no reason under the sun that I needed the fries and I am so glad I caught
myself. I know a handful of french fries won't hurt me but it would have
hurt my attitude for the rest of the day.

The new house is great - we live 20 miles north of where we used to live so
the kids still go to the same school and we commute. My youngest is in 1/2
day kindergarten so I don't come home - the back and forth is too much so I
spend most of everyday at their school volunteering. I just have to get
used to that and adjust my schedule to it. I know that it is not any easier
when I make poor choices with my food so I am really trying to get a handle
on it now.

I thank you, Vanessa, for keeping this group and the challenges going =)

Thanks Caralyn. Yes, I'm pretty motivated - most of the time. I had a hard time
Sunday. I ate some things that I shouldn't have. But, thankfully, I got back to
it yesterday. It is hard to not let it snowball out of control. I think the fact
that I'm leading this challenge really helps to keep me motivated. Well, that
and a few pairs of jeans waiting for me in the closet. :o)

Hey Caralyn,

It's hard to move and have all of these things going on and still focus on
eating right. Don't be hard on yourself. You can start fresh. Stock up on your
favorite lowcarb foods and try to find some new ones. This will help a lot. Fill
yourself up on the good stuff and you'll want the bad stuff less.

I hope you have a great day! How's your new place, by the way? Are you all
settled yet?

Vanessa

I need a new challenge. I just did terrible this whole time. I am a bit
depressed about it actually =(
Not sure what has happened to me. I moved and even though everything else
about the move was great, I am just that much more stressed and busy that I
fell into this trap of not following my "diet" (for lack of a better word)
and it is such an awful cycle!!!! no excuse, I know..... ((sigh)) I still
read these emails, I still attempt each day to be sugar-free, I pray
tomorrow is better for me. eating sugar makes me feel less and less
motivated so it is a vicious cycle!!

Well, thanks for letting me vent. I hope you all are doing well =)

The next weigh in after today's will be Saturday. The end of the
Valentine's Loser Challenge is on Valentine's Day, so we will only have
five days to lose weight this week before we're done! There will be a
reminder the day before the weigh in. I'm excited to see how everyone
does!

Also, stay tuned for an announcement for the next challenge!

Hey Everyone!

Well, this week I was down 1 pounds and 3/4 of an inch. Not a big loss, but
going in the right direction!

Today I upped my TaeBo workout from 1/2 hour to a full hour. Oh man! That was a
killer! Hopefully it will help me lose more than one pound in the coming week.

Well, I can't post any winners for the week. I was the only one who
checked in and I didn't lose a thing! LOL!

So... we're all winners for eating lowcarb. :o)

I think the next weigh in will be better. How's everyone doing out
there?

Dave,

So nice to hear from you. I remember you from when this group was really going a
few years back. I'd love to see that much activity again. I know it really helps
me to stay in tune with fellow lowcarbers.

Congratulations on keeping the weight off too! You are a true inspiration! You
show that it really can be done.

I've been thinking about something that we can do for those on maintenance. I'm
going to continue to have challenges for those of us who are still trying to get
to our goal weight, but there are alot of people who are already at their goal
weight. And in a month or two, I will be too. Any creative ideas ou there to
have fun with maintenance on this group?

Hi Vanessa,

I just lurk here, mostly.

I've been in maintenance for about 3 years. I cheat on Christmas week and
it takes me about a month to get back to goal weight.

It is good to see your efforts here. There was a time when the
LowCarbLounge was the busiest LC group going.

Thanks Laura! You're always a wealth of information!

I ended up just doing the pizzas. We weren't hungry enough for anything else.
Well, except a little sugar free Jell-O with Cool Whip. :o)

Hey Everyone!

So what are you having for Superbowl appetizers today? Anybody getting
creative out there?

I'm making lowcarb tortilla pizzas. I crisp them up in a pan with a
tiny bit of oil. Then I put them on a cookie sheet and put the sauce
toppings and cheese on top, and bake them until the cheese melts. They
are fantastic - like a thin crust pizza!

I also have meatballs. I'm trying to figure out how to make a sauce for
them with velveeta cheese. Any suggestions?

Hey Everyone!

So what are you having for Superbowl appetizers today? Anybody getting
creative out there?

I'm making lowcarb tortilla pizzas. I crisp them up in a pan with a
tiny bit of oil. Then I put them on a cookie sheet and put the sauce
toppings and cheese on top, and bake them until the cheese melts. They
are fantastic - like a thin crust pizza!

I also have meatballs. I'm trying to figure out how to make a sauce for
them with velveeta cheese. Any suggestions?

Vanessa

This sounds interesting... I may try this out today:

As for you sauce... I guess it depends on what you are looking for... a
variation of the rotel cheese dip might work for your meatballs.

Only two of us checked in last week. I'd really like to hear from the
rest of you. How are you doing?

If you've fallen off the wagon, you can get back on. You just need to
let go of the past and get on with your weight loss. Keep plugging on,
and the weight will come off.

I've come to the conclusion that I will be fighting to keep my weight
down for the rest of my life. It is something that I can't give up on,
or the fat will win. I gain weight so easily when I start eating high
carb stuff, so I need to continually stay in the fight against fat. If
I take a bite of a cookie (like I did yesteray), I can't let that allow
me to cheat the rest of the day (or week). I have to get back on
lowcarb right away. Not that I always get right back on the wagon...
knowing that I have check in tomorrow helps!

I would urge you to use this group as accountability to stick with the
program. If you didn't do so well last week, start fresh with
tomorrow's check in. Try to remember how good you feel when you're
eating right and weight is coming off. You have more energy, you are
more confident, you're lighter on your feet. When you're body is stuck
on carbs, you're tired all the time, you're brain can't think as well,
it's hard to get out of bed, hard to sleep, you get little aches and
pains all over. It's no fun.

Fighting against fat has been my view of things. How do you view this
weight loss journey?

Vanessa
