It just amazes me how different eating LC is, even though i'm only
eating Semi-LC right now. Even being pregnant, i can eat potatoes and
maintain my weight, which is nice to know. After the baby i plan to go
back to induction, lose the weight, and slowly work my way up the LC
ladder again. It is kind of nice to know i will probably be able to
enjoy the occasional potato even then. Right now, i am loving the fact
that i can eat lots of fruit and veggies and all the good healthy stuff.
I'm averaging about 80g net carbs/day. I know all the fruit and veggies
is good for me and the baby, and they dont' affect my blood sugar at
all.
I don't know why i have noticed certain things going back to LC this
time around that i didn't notice before. I'm not sure if it is just
because i didn't realize the huge difference doing it the first time, as
i had less comparison (i knew there was a difference, but i didn't
notice some of the little things) or if being pregnant now exaggerates
things, or what. Whatever the reason, cutting out refined flour and
sugar does amazing things for my overall wellbeing - not just in keeping
my weight and blood sugar stable, but my overall attitude (i'm much
happier and less moody) and energy levels. I guess maybe it's kind of
like watching a movie the second time - you always catch little things
you missed the first time you watched it.
When I did LC the first time, i noticed a huge increase in energy. It's
not been AS drastic this time, as the pregnancy drains me, but i'm a
heck of a lot better than i was a couple months ago eating mcdonalds and
ice cream regularly. I don't get headaches as often, and i can
attribute those to too much sugar. I don't get as many cravings as i
did, though i've always had a sweet tooth and still get some cravings.
I can detect hidden sugar in things that i wouldn't think would have
sugar...
We went out to eat a couple weeks ago, and mashed sweet potatoes came
with my dinner. Sounded benign, right? I love sweet potatoes - they
are good for you adn fine on maintenance levels. Yeah, well, i thought
they tasted a bit sweet even for sweet potatoes, but thought maybe i was
just being paranoid. Within an hour i had a major headache, and all i
wanted for the next couple of days was SUGAR. a few weeks before that
i'd had two small slices of this homemade bread at this little
restaurant we go to, thinking that 2 little slices wouldn't hurt me even
though i knew there was some sugar in them. I had the same headache an
hour later and wanted sugar the same way for a couple days. So, i am
SURE there was added sugar in the mashed sweet potatoes. I will not eat
them there again, that's for sure!
I can also tell by teh way the baby reacts if there was too much sugar
in something. Normally the baby does wake up after i eat, but it takes
about 20 minutes, and then she (we think it's a girl anyway) is up for
quite a while, and her movements are strong and steady. She's an active
little thing! If i eat something sugary, she is up very quickly, and
her movements are more erratic and spastic feeling. She's also out cold
again in 10 or 15 minutes, instead of being up for an hour or so. It's
like she goes into a sugar high, then a sugar coma! LOL.
