I received the following in email today. Please pass it on to other
message boards and groups! Heppers CAN donate their organs!!!!
I talked with UNOS in Florida today, and hepatitis C patients are
definitely allowed to give organs. They should sign donor cards like
anyone else. It is up to each transplant center and each medical
personnel on how they will use these organs. I talked with Beverly
Trinkle, UNOS Patient Services at 888-894-6361.
I have been wanting to contact websites and organizations that say
that hepatitis C patients should not donate organs. I believe that
the CDC website also states this? (not sure). This is not correct
and unfortunately misleading many people.
Prisoners who are HCV positive and wanting to be donors should be
provided with donor cards to sign just like anyone else. As well as
HCV + persons in the community, HCV+ prisoners have also probably
been told that they cant be donors, but I'm not really familiar
with
the procedures for organ donation if death occurs while in prison.
If
anyone can shed some light on this could they please email me at
pkbeckinor@....
Please help spread the word. Thanks.
