A message from La Leche League International.

Dear Amanda

Over 50 years ago, seven women imagined a future that had the kind of information and support women needed in order to successfully nurse their babies. Through their passion to help other mothers, La Leche League International was born. Today, the organization is present in 64 countries and helps approximately 10 million people a year as they work toward a world where breastfeeding is the cultural norm.

Imagine what you and LLLI could do together to invent a future where nursing rates are high and babies, mothers and the health of entire societies benefit, where women can nurse without fear or reprisal, where infant mortality rates are lower, cancer rates are diminished and mothers and babies create emotional bonds that benefit them both. It is within your grasp to create just such a future. You are the crucial piece of the puzzle that will make the world a breastfeeding friendly place.

LLLI needs your help to reach out to mothers everywhere. As the organization strives to provide information, education and mother-to-mother support for women who want to nurse their babies, your assistance is crucial.  The ability of LLLI to reach more mothers is subject to many factors, including the financial support of donors like you who believe in the mission of LLLI.  Please be part of creating a bright future for breastfeeding mothers who need peer support and evidence-based information.

   In a few weeks it will be 2008 and over 10.7 million babies will have been born in the month of December. Each and every one of those babies deserves mother’s milk. 
   The awareness of the importance of breastmilk has never been higher. Researchers are proving what the seven founders of La Leche League International instinctively knew: breastmilk is the superior food for an infant.  LLLI also knows that breastfeeding is much more than mere nutrition.
