***not medical advice, just what worked for me***
i had emergency gall bladder surgery when my dd wasn't even 3 wks old and (of course exclusively bf) i am former breastfeeding professional and know that at least in the hospital where i had my gallbladder removed, (BMH) they use the same inhalation agents for mothers who have to be put under for emergency c-sections.

imo, once you are awake enough to hold the babies safely (ie-not feeling real loopy from the meds) they are sufficiently out of your milk enough to nurse safely. i expressed 2X (and stored for use when she was older) after i woke from my surgery right away, and by 1.5 hrs later, i was pumping milk for her feed for later that night (my mil and fil were keeping her for me, and dh was running the milk back and forth for her to be fed with the spoonfeeder, as i didn't wanna chance problems with a fake nipple.

i hope this helps, and IF dd had been older, i probably wouldn't have even worried about pumping and saving that milk for later when she was older, i just didn't wanna chance that such a little newborn woulnd't be able to metabolize the meds very well.
