Anyone here going? I may be, just need to get my act together and fill
in the form. Thinking of going as an adult helper as I am 18 now (only
just tho)
Anyway, anyone left on here as the group seems to be quite dead at the
moment.

Hi all,
For those of you who are members of facebook I have created a group
for CLAPA in case anybody wants to join. I'm also hoping to use this
as a way of gathering contacts for other young people with clefts but
all are welcome!
For those not members who wish to be the web address is
www.facebook.com It is a networking site - a bit like Friends Reunited
but without the fees!

I'm OK. Still 18, still work in a care home and still have my gorgeous baby

Do you have a job, Laura? I've had loooads of interviews, but haven't got
anywhere yet. I had 3 interviews with the NHS because I want to be a health care
assistant (well, I want to be a paramedic, but I'm not 21 yet) but I
fluffed up in them, because the nurses seem to enjoy intimidating poor innocent
18
year olds, by sitting behind a long table and making the interviewee sit
smack bang in the middle of the room feeling (and looking) like an idiot. God,
they don't exactly make you feel less self-conscious!
Anyway, how are you?

congratulations on your pregnancy!! i've become really broody recently, i go
all gooey over every single baby i see! LOL.
I got a pass grade in my BTEC in Health Studies, I found out today. I also
got a C in my Science retake, and a D in Maths, for the 4th time, which I'm
gutted about. It means I can't do a university course in either of the two I
wanted to do. I want to be a paramedic, but if I can't do that I want to be a
paediatric nurse. If I can't do THAT...I guess I'll do some stupid admin job or
something, LOL.
Congrats again,

normal?

my front teethz. I haven't had any other operation since then. I still need work
done but i can't do them cause im trying 2 get pregnant. Im married 4 almost 4

Hi,
My name's Maria, I'm 22, and have recently had an operation to close
the fistula in the roof of my mouth (was born with unilateral - that
means one side yeah?? - cleft lip and palate). I've only had about 5
surgeries and my last one before this was when I was about 10 I
think - this one was my choice.
The reason I went for this surgery is because the hole in the roof
of my mouth was pretty big and I had to wear a plate otherwise my
speech was dreadful (well, people said they couldn't tell but I
could), so I decided to have the hole fixed up. I saw Mr Goodacre at
the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, before this all my sugery was
done at Queen Mary's, Roehampton, but that was a long time ago.
Anyway, the reason I'm on here is because I've been searching and
searching but I can't find anyone else that's had the cleft palate
repaired at this late stage. Being an 80's child, obviously things
have changed and they used to fix the palate at a very young age,
but just then. Once I'd had my orthodontics the hole had been
stretched open somewhat. I think these days they bone graft further
back or something.
The surgery was not incredibly successful (grrrrr wish I'd never
bothered) and the palate is currently in the process of collapsing
again, but hopefully there will at least be some improvement from
before. I would love to talk to anyone who has had a similat
problem, or from anyone younger who would like to talk to someone
who's already been through the worst!
I live in Portsmouth, UK at the moment, but will be moving to
California in a month's time to get married to my fiance :).
Sorry for the obscenly long message!!

Hi Harriet,
I had my nose fixed in 2001 when I was 13. I had it done because I was being
bullied, and my nose did look a little better, but unfortunately the
bullying didn't stop. I saw a psychologist though, and she helped me to find
ways to
stop the bullies affecting me.
My nose is still squashed, and it doesn't look 'normal', but then I guess it
never will.
If you want your nose done, go for it!
