the text service thing 82ASK? They guarantee to answer
your questions, and I was up at 3am the other night and decided to ask them
what chance I had of having a baby with a cleft. Here's their answer: One out
of
every 800 babies in the UK is born with a cleft. No studies suggest it is
hereditory. I may not be a doctor, but I know enough about clefts to know that
it can be hereditory! So I texted back and said I knew that it could
definitely be hereditory, I just wanted to know what my chances were, and they
texted back: Appologies, hereditory factors do seem to play a small role. a
parent
who was born with a cleft has a 2% chance of passing it on to their child. I
couldn't quite work it out though, does a random person have a 0.8% chance,
and we'd have a 2% chance? I failed my Maths GCSE 4 times, so numbers aren't
my strong point! Can anyone figure out the numbers...?
