Kristen,
Please please have her go to our website at www.aigb.com. If she
wants to find a new doctor, she can link to each of their websites
to find out which one she prefers and then give their office a call.
She is welcome to come to the support group. I would be happy to
talk with her. She can call me anytime at 817-520-5404.
Thanks!

I have not received any responses to attend the Waco dinner. I'm calling La Fiesta to cancel this month. The next Waco dinner is scheduled for 4:30 September 9th. Hope to see you there.
Hello all.
There is a Waco Bandster dinner scheduled for 4:30 pm tomorrow,
Saturday, August 12. No-one has responded that they would be
attending. If you are planning to attend, please let me know as soon
as possible. I will post tomorrow if the dinner is cancelled due to

For those of you who are wondering, Dr. Carter is still out of the
office and we are doing our best to get fills for our patients at
other facilities and to reschedule some of our Lap-Band cases as
needed. We have heard from him today and at this time,he is planning on
starting surgeries back up next week. We really appreciate all the
understanding our patients have
shown during this time and also all the well wishes that we are
passing on to Dr. C. Take this as a reminder to always take care of
yourselves, even in the seemingly small things. Dr. Carter's
situation began with a simple foot injury, then progressed to blood
clots in his lungs and leg. Thanks again for understanding.

I have to admit that I have never counted calories...sugars(not

should get at least 65 grams of protein a day...that will be hard in
the beginning...but you'll get better at getting it in...
There as a great protein drink out....you can get it at The Vitamine
Shopp (if ya'll have them) it's called New Whey...comes in two flavors
and in packaged in a plastic vial...it has 25 grams of protein per
vial...1oo calories and 0 fat grams 0 sugars....and it goes down in
three drinks.....and it taste good.

Thanks Pam!!! i am so excited about tomorrow. They called today and said "You know how you were supposed to be here at 8:30 tomorrow?" i said, "yah...." (thinking they were going to cancel or something) She says "you need to be here at 6:45!!!" YIPPEEEEE
i have done alot of reading and research on this. And am SOOOOOO ready for a life style change! My husband and i are celebrating 25 years married this Dec and in June 2007, we've got a trip to Italy planned to celebrate!! It'll be so good to be able to walk around and be able to move without so much pain and discomfort!
i've seen alot of people talking about counting calories. i hadn't really thought about having to do that, since i'll be eating so much less anyway. Guess i'd better prepare myself for that. i've always hated counting them... time for that to change too i
guess.
Again, thanks for the support. Soon as i can get on line, i'll let you know how i did! :)
PS. i looked at my chart that i've made for myself with my weight loss. i had my numbers wrong. i had 288, start, but it's really 289. So i've actually lost 16 lbs! whoo hoo!
Way to GO ! you have done great on your pre-op diet and you seem to have your facts together about the band.....this will not be a diet...it's a life change for sure because you can't eat as much as you use to.....but you should be able to eat most of the foods you like just in much smaller portions.....make sure to have that GasX handy and walk...walk...walk as soon as you can....you don't have to go to far..just try to do it often....I found it easier to sleep in a recliner the first few days.....Good Luck... I'll be thinking of ya'll so let us know how you are doing as soon as you can.

I don't know how strict your diet was ....but it's very important that
you follow it and yout post op diet to a tee......we were told that one
of the Doctors started to do a surgery on his patient and when he
opened him up that his liver had not reduced in size and he just closed
him back up.....that's why they want you to lose during this
period....so your liver canb reduce in size and it makes the band
surgeruy easier....I'm sure this won't happen to you...but you need to
phys yourself out because it's even more important to follow your Dr's
instructions to the letter after surgery and that means no
cheating....the band is just a tool so 40% of your sucess is the band
and the other60% is how well you accept and work with it.
Just like on any diet you were ever on.....you can get around this
too...so please...take a deep breath and tell yourself you can do
this...because you are a strong person and this is the tool that is
going to change your life forever (if you let it)
Make sure you walk as soon and as often as possible after surgery...to
the kitchen and back...to the bathroom and back.....around your couch a
few times.....this will help with the gas and also help you recover
quicker....good luck

i've been on pre-op diet for 13 days now and have lost 15 lbs. i NEVER thought i could do it, but, knowing how important this is to me, i've been very good and stayed on the straight and narrow. One day i was vacuuming and found a sunflower seed on the coffee table. It would have been so easy for me to just pop that little bity seed into my mouth, but instead (after looking at it for a minute or two) i decided that i wanted to be thin more than the seed. It was terribly hard.... TREMENDOUSLY hard... but i did it. And i'm so
proud of myself for not eating it. Yah, i know that little seed wouldn't have made any differnce in my weight or anything else, but it made a difference to me!
My doc has flat out said that if you don't stay on the pre-op diet and your liver doesn't shrink enough for him to get to the stomach that he'll just close you back up and not do the surgery. i DON'T want that to happen!
You are going to have to decide if this is going to work, or if it isn't! The choice you are making is your own. Whether you fail or succeed is totally up to you. The Support group, the doctor's offices, your family... can all support your and cheer you on, but it's only YOU that puts that food into your mouth. Decide today that you are going to SUCCEED! You CAN do it! And, it's not as hard as you think, once you get your mind set on it.
My surgery is tomorrow. i'm so excited!!!
As for the pre-op diet... i've lost 15 lbs so far. YAY ME! My family has been VERY supportive, eating out alot, & eating food that you don't have to cook that i don't have to smell! lol
This group HAS helped me. One lady said that the band was 20% of it, the rest was up to me! That helped me in my thinking SO MUCH!!!! Thank you to whoever that was!
i also now understand that the first 6 weeks after surgery isn't for losing weight, it's for recovery and healing! That doesn't mean i can't diet and do the right things, but i can't work out in a gym like i had planned.
Thank you all for all the support that you give. Teresa, i hope you find it in yourself to succeed with this. Even the pre-op. None of it is going to be easy, at least i don't think so. But the group and friends, and family are all here to support you through it.
i hope that i've
helped a little. You can do it.... cuz if i can, anyone can! LOL
i've already got my first mushie meal planned out! LOL
Take care and good luck with surgery!

I bet everybody cheated, I know I did. Don't worry
about, just get back on the wagon and do your best.
Yes, they will still do the surgery.
If we had perfect self-control would we need the band
anyway? LOL

So what do ya think? I am so excited. Let me tell you that 8 months
ago I was the freak on here that thought this would never work for me
because I was not losing enough weight. I heard not to long ago that
the surgery is only 20% of you weight loss sucess the other 80% is
what you put into it. YOU NEED TO EXERCISE AND EAT RIGHT. That is the
key to the weight comming off faster. Those of you that are just
starting this wonderful journey it is going to be okay. Just remember
the band does not do all the work.... only 20% of it. Good luck every
one.

Now with that out of the way ....All Doctors are different...with the instructions and procedures they have thier patients go thru....
I am 1 yr and 3 months out....I have gone from 22/24 to size twelve.
After I was past my mushies...I was able to incorporate all kinds of food into my eating....I just could not eat as much...I was told to never drink carbonated drinks again...there are some (very few) that will say it's ok...I have known to many bandsters that have had real problems with it...so I don't touch them....I can eat pasta..rice....salad.....and bread if it is really hard....I use to be able to eat eggs...but can't anymore....You should be able to eat just about anything....
But whatever you do....follow your Doctors orders to the tee.... That important during your healing stage.
You will be able to eat that smll piece of cheesecake.....just don't
do it right a way.

hi i'm jen, 44, married for 25 years this coming Dec. i have 3 children, 16, 16, 13 and i weigh 288lbs.
i'm having the lap-band surgery on August 10th. i'm excited and nervous. The most nerveracking thing about all this is i haven't done the nutrien class yet! My doc's office has given me a book to read through that they will be going over during the class, but EVERYTHING in is has to do with the Gastric Bypass, not ONE THING has to do with the lap band.
i've met with the doctor and he's awesome, has answered everything that i could think of, but now i have a whole bunch more!
i've done awesome on the pre-op diet. Started on the 29th and have lost 10 lbs already. Course, my pre-op diet is nothing but protein shakes, chicken/beef broth and sugar free jello, and i'm doing nothing but peeing and having diahrea! LOL
My problem is this... i thought that after the surgery i'd be (course after the puree'd food and stuff) going back on to a regular diet. Veggies, fruit, meat, etc.
The book they gave me (about GB) says that i'll have nothing but meat until i've lost 75% of the weight that i want to lose. Is this true with the lap band as well???
i'm proud of myself with the pre-op diet, i haven't cheated once, and i'm expecting myself to do well with the whole thing. i'm just hoping that it's not as different as i expected it to be.
i wanted to be able to eat what i normally do, just not as much of it. A bite of cheesecake (Even sugar free) instead of the whole cake! LOL i just want to have the taste of it, rather than having to eat the whole thing.
Sorry, does any of this make
sense? i want to be able to go out to dinner with my friends, have a few leaves of lettuce with my dinner, some veggies and meat.
i can't wait til monday when i have the class, but in the mean time i'm driving myself crazy with all these questions! HELP!!!!
Won't be long now. Please stick to the post op diet. It will help your band heal into place. Who was this wonderful lady that you chatted with?

My kids or mother don't know that I had the surgery. I have only told a few and asked them not to say anything. Only the ones I know would support me! It's my business and no one elses'. If I told them I would only hear negitive remarks and I don't need that. Do what you feel comfortable with....maybe later....I'll tell....and then again, maybe I won't!!

I initially had to tell the people I worked with, just because we usually all eat lunch together and I couldn't hide the "pre-op" diet. I was intrigued by the variety of reactions that I got, from
pure happiness for me to the person who said that people die from that. (I know that isn't the case, but she still said it.)
I have since been more cautious about revealing the surgery part of my story to people who ask about my weight loss. My medical history doesn't seem to be information that I have to share, but when asked point blank whether or not I have had surgery, I don't lie well!!
I have changed jobs since the surgery and have not told the people in my new office. When they ask me how I am doing it, I have just said that I am eating better, eating less, and exercising. All of which is true, I just omit the part about WHY I eat so much less.
I am having lunch with some old friends that I haven't seen in a couple of years. I love them dearly, but they tend to like to gossip. I'm hesitant to tell them about the surgery knowing that they will share that information with a lot of people whether I
would like them to know it or not. But, if they ask me outright, I will have difficulty avoiding the subject.
Am I being silly? Am I making it into a bigger deal than necessary? I'm interested in your thoughts....
I'm curious to hear from others of you riding the band-wagon as to
whether or not you have openly shared your surgery with those around
you.
I initially had to tell the people I worked with, just because we
usually all eat lunch together and I couldn't hide the "pre-op"
diet. I was intrigued by the variety of reactions that I got, from
pure happiness for me to the person who said that people die from
that. (I know that isn't the case, but she still said it.)
I have since been more cautious about revealing the surgery part of
my story to people who ask about my weight loss. My medical history
doesn't seem to be information that I have to share, but when asked
point blank whether or not I have had surgery, I don't lie well!!
I have changed jobs since the surgery and have not told the people
in my new office. When they ask me how I am doing it, I have just
said that I am eating better, eating less, and exercising. All of
which is true, I just omit the part about WHY I eat so much less.
I am having lunch with some old friends that I haven't seen in a
couple of years. I love them dearly, but they tend to like to
gossip. I'm hesitant to tell them about the surgery knowing that
they will share that information with a lot of people whether I
would like them to know it or not. But, if they ask me outright, I
will have difficulty avoiding the subject.
Am I being silly? Am I making it into a bigger deal than
necessary? I'm interested in your thoughts....
