Re: [lapbandrapband] Floundering!

Sandy,

AIGB still has support meetings on the 2nd Monday at SSCFW at 6:30pm, as always.  You can also view the support group calendar at www.lapbandsupportgroups.com   I will check to make sure that you are on the mailing list to receive reminders of the meetings and topics.   Also have you checked out the My True Results forum on www.trueresults.com ?  If you go to the main page, there is a link in the upper right corner that says forum.  It is a message board, and a social network of banded people just like yourself.  Please check it out!

I am not certain, but I don't think you would have to "infiltrate" Dr. Snow's support group.  I can check to see if they welcome patients banded by other AIGB surgeons.

To help you get back on track, can you schedule an Aftercare appointment to help you evaluate whether or not you need an adjustment to your band?  Making sure that your "tool" is working properly would be a great first step to helping you get back on the bandwagon.  As for the other adjustments needed, make small ones every day.  You don't have to crazy nuts all at once, just by starting with cutting back on the sugar in your coffee can make a difference.  Review the basics and make sure you are working within those guidelines, eating your protein, drinking your water, getting some exercise to help you get back on track.  Review your calorie intake and nutritional needs.  Are you getting what you need?

I was able to quit smoking for two months, using Chantix.  However, when we did my yearly EGD, they found two tiny ulcers that I believe caused them, so I stopped taking it and of course started smoking again.  I know I shouldn't but I do.  So I sympathize with you there.

It can be tough to get yourself back in the groove of losing.  Just take it slow, one day at a time, one little step at a time.  Steady forward progress is better than no progress at all, and before you know it, the losing speeds up.

Thanks for posting and letting us help you for a change.  You have always been the one that steps up to help others, glad we can be here for you!

MJ

Subject: [lapbandrapband] Floundering!

This used to be such a wonderful posting board and I wish I knew what
has happened. I miss hearing how everyone was doing and getting
advice from those who have gone before me. To the best of my
knowledge even the AIGB monthly meetings are no more. I'm going to
toss this out and if it goes without any response I guess I'll delete
this group from my computer and try to find something else.

I had my surgery over a year ago and have only lost 45 pounds. Right
now I am putting weight back on because I have reverted to old habits
and don't know what to do. Rather I do know what to do, but don't
seem to have the drive to get there. I started back smoking thinking
that would keep me from eating, but that was exchanging one bad habit
for another. I've been trying to quit again and am back scouring for
food. I keep thinking about how much money I spent for this surgery
and it makes me sick that I am shooting myself in the foot.

I don't know how many fills I've had, but probably 5. I don't know
if I need another one even though I don't have to take small bites &
chew, chew, chew. Some things seem to fill me up quickly while other
things I can eat more of. I wonder if I have stretched out my
pouch. I wonder why I seem to be floundering. It's not that I don't
know what to do and yet I don't know what to do!

I think I will try to "infiltrate" Dr Snow's after care group and see
if I can't get back on track. God knows I need to do something. If
anyone has had the same problem and are willing to post, I would
really appreciate it.
