Re: [kneesurgeryforum] meniscus tear

I had an arthroscopy done on my left knee in 1999.Periodically I get pain in the knee.I saw an orthopedist and had a few x-rays taken. The x-rays showed that occasionally the upper and lower bones of my knee may scrape each other causing pain.Last Sunday I was supposed to walk in the AIDS walk but cancelled because of knee pain, which btw I do not get very often.I remember doing some walking up and down stairs in a park which may have caused the pain.Every day I take Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

Hi everyone. I am brand new to the group.
I tore my meniscus in my left knee in April of this year. On the
MRI there was also some evidence of arthritis. I was scheduled for
surgery, but canceled it. I have tried a variety of ways to deal with
the pain as well as to try and heal it.
I have had some success with ultrasound and vitamin C. I am
interested in opinions and experiences of others in the group on pain
relief methods. I have also used creams and ointments with analgesics.
I am often awakened in the night because my knee has stiffened or
because I fell asleep with the inside part of my leg where the tear is
resting on the bed and causing pain. I find I can stand the stabs of
pain and dull aches better during the day, but the night sure does
wear me down.
I am thinking about prolotherapy. Does anyone reading this have any
experience with it? It at least would add tissue instead of reducing
it as surgery does.
I would appreciate any ideas out there.
Thanks,
Jean
