Hi, I have been reading and learning from all of you before my TLKR
on June 24,2008. I did not have any questions since Dr. Estok at
Brigham and Women's Hospital had a good reputation, I read the
recommended book, and looked forward to a knee that worked ( I had
all my cartalidge removed in 1967)
My question is about PT and recovery. I had in home PT 3x a week for
approx. 2 months. He streched my knee and finally reached 116
degrees bend and discharged me to outpatient PT. At the end of in
home PT I had my leg elevated for most of the day and gobbled 400 to
600 mg of Ibuprofen 3 or 4 times a day to stop the swelling. I took
pain pills an hour before he arrived, but nothing for the rest of the
day.
My new PT has me only elevating my leg for 15 minutes a few times per
day. She wants me to ice, take pain meds, a few Ibuprofen and
exercise as much as possible.
My leg is very stiff, I can barely bend to 90 degrees, swollen more
than when I first came home from the hospital.
Has anyone else had this type of change in PT? If my leg is so stiff
does it mean I lost 16 degrees and should think of the procedure that
helps bend the knee past 90 degrees?
Thanks for you help.
Diane
