I was in a very similar situation - I'm 1 month post-op right now. I felt a pop, had immediate swelling, etc. Same as you, I was able to go about my normal daily routine without much pain and without my knee even slipping. I could run a little, and ride the bike. During surgery, they found my ACL to be 90% torn - so you can definitely have a torn ACL and not experience a lot of pain beforehand. My doctor recommended riding the stationary bike and doing lots of leg muscle exercises (leg press, hamstring machine, etc.) to prepare for the surgery.
Hope that helps!

I def. heard a tear when the accident happened and it swelled to twice it¢s size in a matter of hrs. I visited an OS and he told me that it was def. an ACL tear.
I haven¢t had any x-rays or MRI¢s done.
I mean I can def. feel that something¢s going on in there (in my knee).
It¢s just one of those things that you can put in the back of your mind and go about your day.

I had my acl replaced on my left leg december of 2005. I was in PT for 12 weeks following this. It was PAINFUL and if i had to do it again, I'd think really really really hard about it.
if you have no pain, and are able to do the eliptical, why are they doing surgery?
just wondered.

Hi Christina,
I tore my Quad tendon, and had a limp lower leg, so surgery was scheduled asap. As far as I know, your surgery is less painful, with a faster recovery than mine is. If you went to Yahoo videos and typed in Knee surgery, you will see testimonials, and videos of the surgery, ewwwwwwwww. That site has been helpful for me ..... take it slow!

I am just wondering how bad it is for me to continue my morning fitness routine of about 20-30 min on the Elliptical machine (only twice per week) at the gym?
I don't feel pain when i'm done. No more then what I feel on a daily basis (which is very minimal).
