Hi - I definitely agree that everyone is different - I got my new ACL on March 19th and have just got rid of the crutches last week and am still using a cane! I got to get out of the big brace also but am now in a smaller brace and will be for about a year. I snapped my ACL and also both menisces and also had a procedure done to the ends of my bones because I had no cushion left between them. I feel like I'm doing great, I'm working hard at therapy (it hurts like hell) and I hope to go back to work light duty on June 1st. I hope you guys are also doing well. If anyone else is bored and tired of being at home email me sometime!

hi..I had my surgery a year and four months ago. I was pretty much
homebound and on crutches for the first two weeks. After that, with my
brace locked in the straight position, I was mobile, slow, but mobile. It
took me four months of physical therapy to lose my brace, and then another
two months of PT after that to get the quad muscles strong and teach me the
stuff to keep them strong. I still do my PT exercises at home every other
day and have had no reoccurences! :)
My advice to you -
make sure someone is around for the first two weeks for sure, then, take is
slow and follow your body!!
Make sure you don't cheat on your PT excercises as it really does help.
Also, make sure you have plenty of ICE in the freezer before your surgery
and
if you can, get your pain meds ahead of time too... my surgery was in the
late afternoon, and our pharmacy was closed by the time we got home... had
to call the guy (i live in a small town thankfully!) and he came and filled
them for us.
don't try to do too much too soon, and take care of yourself!!! :)
