Hi all,
I am having my ACL replaced and a menidcal tranplant in December, but
I am still unsure of what to do about my damaged articular
cartilage. My ortho really doesn't know what to do with me at this
point, since I have already had so many surgeries on this knee. There
is already some arthritis under the kneecap and I have one of three
options:
Do nothing: Not my first option since I currently experience a lot of
pain and the torn up cartilage has a greater chance ot tearing up my
tranplanted meniscus and leading to a 4th ACL failure. I figure I am
going under the knife anyways, I might as well get everything fixed
that I can.
Micro-fracture surgery: I think they poke holes in the bare spots and
hope that cartilage grows...? Can be done arthroscopically, I think
Cadaver cartilage plugs: I don't know what this surgery is called so
I am having a hard time researching it. This is a MUCH more serious
surgery, but I can't find out anything about success rates, etc.
Basically has anyone had either of these types of surgeries and how
was your outcome? Would you recommend one surgery over the other?
Thanks!
