Good luck on your surgery. How did your injure your knee? Are you
having allograft or hamstring/patella tendon graft? Are you having
outpatient surgery?
Thanks for the good luck wish! To be honest we dont know exactly how I did it. I know that I have had a partial tear for 9 years (found with my 2nd surgery) but I have done ok with it. Back in April I dislocated my knee again and finally broke down and went back to another OS... of course MRI was ordered and showed the ACL being how it was with the last MRI... then we did another one back in August because the swelling and pain would not go away and they found that it was certainly not the same and that I would have to have ACL surgery on it. During that time frame I went to two dog shows and experienced some pain with them but nothing major... and had a KT1000 done to check the ACL and experienced a LOT of pain after that (was back on crutches... not the norm)... so it is a mystery. My OS said that I am the first person that he knows that has a torn ACL and doesnt know when, how, and exactly what they were doing when it happened.
I will be having the allograft done (if they get it in... they didnt not have confirmation on Tuesday when I had pre-op done) and if they dont get it then Hamstring since the Patellar tendon (which would have been the first choice) was used to fix (or attempt to) my dislocating knee in 1995.
I have been told that the surgery will be outpatient unless they do more than they are expecting to do... I also have the first surgery of the day so have the benefit of being in recovery as long as needed.
I have a good pain tolerance so should be able to handle most of it. I dont handle pain meds well so have learned to deal without them. I have been told that I have to take them on a set schedule for 3 days after surgery for the sake of those around me... so I guess I will at least do that. I plan on lots of ice though to see if that wont help out more.
Good luck on your surgery. With time to heal AND persistant physical
therapy, you won't regret it!
I love my PT and have worked with them for about 4 mos now so we have grown to know each other well and can tell what each of us can take! LOL... I went in today to get my "pep talk" and any last minute words of advice from the guys... we will see... my nerves are shot at the moment though! LOL
