I was put on a stationary bicycle in pt...just a couple of weeks after surgery. Kickboxing was at 6 months with a brace. During the six months of not being able to do the sports I wanted to do, i spent strength training, elliptical machines, and swimming. Good luck to you and you will get back to your martial arts even though it may seem like an eternity.

Just wanted to say howdy. I'm a 32yo female who's 6 days post-op ACL
reconstruction with a patellar graft. My injury was chronic - started
when I was twelve, and twenty years of martial arts abuse later, my
knee went to the dogs. Prior to the surgery, my orthopedic surgeon
wasn't convinced I needed a repair (my joint had tightened up
considerably) - was just going to scope it to see what was going on.
Took him 10 min of hunting to find the remnants of my ACL, which was
shredded.
I do have a question from those who are post-op on the board. How
long did it take for you to return to knee-friendly sports like
bicycling? They've got me waiting a year on martial arts, 9 months on
horseback riding...I'm looking for something to fill in the time so I
don't fill out my waistline too much!
Thanks in advance!
Lori
