Well, look at the bright side, at least it wasn't you who tore your
ACL. Has your boss had his surgery yet? I went a good couple
months before having mine and I did a lot of low-impact cardio. I
wouldn't recommend him going out and running on the road. But he'd
probably figure that out after the first few steps.
Immediatlely post-op the only cardio he'll be doing is squeezing one
of those stress balls. He'll have some PT exercises to do for at
least a few months before he can think about any impact cardio. I
think a doctor would recommend a period of 6-12 months before
returning to a sport like basketball. And he ought to listen to
that advice as basketball is a high impact sport for the knee.
But by about 2-3 months post op I was jogging around a track and
doing the cardio machines at my gym.
When I hurt my knee, I went from tip-top shape to not so tip-top
shape. I was able to stay in decent shape, but losing the ability
to do high-impact cardio hurt my fitness goals. I am just now
returning to the shape I was in before my injury and that will be 2
years in June. However I'd say he'll be feeling pretty good
(normal) in about a year. These things take time, but what are you
gonna do? Or should I say, What is your boss gonna do?
