Hello all. My husband went in for ACL surgery Wednesday morning. The plan was
to use a graft from the hamstring muscle. During the procedure the tendon
"snapped back like a rubber band" per the doctor and he was unable to find it.
He tried looking for in and even made an additional insicion further up the leg
in attempts to locate it. He was not able to recover it and it was left in his
leg. I was told that it will turn to scar tissue and there would be no problem
with it. At any rate the procedure lasted about twice as long as planned and I
was very concerned. He woke up fine and we came home with Hydrocodone 5mg One
every 3 hours. I asked if Motrin would be ok in between as I had heard that it
was and the doctor told me no. A few hours after we were home he was
complaining of unbearable pain and I contacted the nurse in call who told me he
could have 2 hydrocodone every 4 hours and Motrin in between. The doc called
later and also ageed with the nurse. That Friday he had his first PT appt at
that time I asked the doctor (same office as PT) for a refill to get us through
the upcoming weekend and he reluctantly gave it to me stressing that at this
point (2 days later) he should only be taking it when and if absolutely needed
and it was made clear to me that he would not be gicen another refill. My
husband wanting to follow drs orders did not take the med the rest of the day
and by 830 that evening we spiked a temp of 102.8. Another call to the on call
nurse who istructed me to give him 2 hydrocodone and call back in an hour as if
temp was not down we would need to go the ER. In an hour his temp did go down
to 100.0. It is now Sunday night and he is still running a consistent
99.5-100.7 fever. I am slightly concerned and called the nurse again who did
not seem at all concerned and instructed me to call the doctor in the morning.
I am just wondering if anyone has any feedback or comments regarding personal
experience with this surgery.
My husband never complains and is in a lot of pain not to mention has three
awful insicions with metal staples.
One other thing that has been bothering him is that when he puts his leg down on
the ground to get up for the bathroom he says that it feels like there is a rush
of fluid (maybe blood) from his upper leg that flows down to his calf
area....anyone have this??
Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks!!!
Jenna
