Hi there,
My name is Rach and I am 21 from Sydney, Australia.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy at approximately 15 years of age. It was
thought that my anti-depressants lowered my threshold for seizure
activity and hence had that seizure. Then more occurred. Absence
seizures joined in with this original tonic-clonic… and off we go.
Originally the seizures were handled with the drug Epilim, but then I
started loosing hair from that drug. Apparently that's rare, but for
me it was pretty distressing!
Then I was popped on Lamictal. It did good, despite the side effects
being crap. The past 6 months my seizures have increased to weekly or
more. I lost my job because of it, I have had to pause university for
it (I was studying nursing), basically my life is just going down the
drain and it feels horrid.
My friends have also seen my seizures, and to me that is a problem. To
them it's not.
My memory is also going, I feel all fuzzy in my head sometimes and
can't focus on people talking. I don't know if this is normal, I don't
know what's happening. But I would like to describe it later on and
see if you guys experience a similar thing?
I see a neurologist and psychiatrist. Because of it getting worse my
mum suggested brain surgery or other interventions like that. So we
have made an appointment with 2 brain surgeons and will see what they
think. If anything can fix it, or decrease the seizures so I can
drive, if anything like that can happen… oh, heaven. True heaven that
will be.
And that is where I am at now.
So, hi. :)
