Hello! How is everything going for you? My little boy has recently
started wearing head gear- we were able to purchase football head
gear that works really well for $50aust from a sports shop(I think
thats about 50c for americans-only joking, maybe half our dollar, so
about $25US). Annan wears his as he is ataxic- lack of muscle
control due to abnormal brain activity. Since he started the diet he
has gone from only rolling over at 15months old, to now trying to
stand alone, so needs protection from falls as he is very
wobbly.Letting you know about the footy head gear as it is much less
expensive than other styles of head guards and can be more effective-
covers ears etc.
Also, Ricci's and Double D's make sugarfree lollies that aren't
completely carb and protein free, but are extremely low, so just
need calculating into diet to be safe. Only problem may be that they
contain isomalt etc, that some kids can be effected by, so just
check it all out first. Also, my son's favourite keto meal is a
fruity creamy jelly.
It consists of:
~Aeroplane diet jelly
~60% fat pure double cream
~Philladelphia cream cheese
~MCT oil (can be any oil you generally use on diet if not using MCT)
~honeydew melon/strawberries(we vary it-using different amount for
each, & using ketocalculator to work out how much of everything
suits the individual child of course)
Also chocolate mousse..
Almost anything creamy can be made into a keto version, using
sweetener for sugar.
My son also likes avocado, so that gives more variation to the taste
of savoury meals. I find the oil can separate with avocado if its
not mixed with some cream, when heated, but its often just trial and
error with meals until you get the balance/cooking tecnique etc
worked out(when you've already got a fail safe one ready for next
meal though!)
Good luck. Let us know how its all going.
