Re: Newbie & Hello! :)

Hi Sarah and welcome! Thats fantastic to hear that the diet is
working so well and so quickly for your daughter already! Apparently
it can take up to 3 months to see the full benefits of the diet, so
I hope that it just keeps on getting better! My name is ToyNera, we
live in Australia. My son Annan is 16mnths, has had infantile spasms
(startle reflex appearing seizure), myoclonic, tonic and clonic
tonic (grandmal) seizures. He also has global developmental delay.
His skills are currently between that of a 6-10month old's skill
level. He has about 2/3rds of a normal brain's growth. He's my
little mystery boy.
He has been on the diet for almost 2 months now, but we are still
trying to get his ketones high enough. His ketones drop overnight,
and sometimes aren't quite high enough during the day. He is still
having 1-4 tonic seizures a day, and is on 70mg/day of Phenobarb.
Annan has constant abnormal brain activity, which I believe( will
test in a few weeks with an EEG) is settling somewhat with the diet.
I believe this as, although it doesn't appear to be working enough
to stop his seizures (although who knows what his seizure activity
would be without the diet) his development since starting the diet
has been amazing. Before beginning the diet Annan could only roll
(which he started doing at 10mnths (when he began having visible
seizues!). He started the diet just before he turned 15mnths and
since starting the diet he can now sit, crawl-even from room to room
now, and climbed up his first step 2 days ago. He has started making
lots more eye contact, holding his arms out to be picked up, saying
MMMMah when he wants me and appears to be less Ataxic (lack of
muscle control due to abnormal brain activity-wobbly and hard to
move, pick up things etc). The improvements in his awareness and
development has been amazing. But now he's due to eat, so gotta go.
Welcome and best of luck Sarah, talk soon. Hope your daughter keeps
doing so well, and may she do even better. ToyNera
