YES!!!
And here's why...
But first, I have a confession to make. Have subscribed to this group but
have responded to very few. Seems most parents have a "handle" on their child's
diet and are simply looking for creativity as the diet is very regimented.
So I simply let the parents who are "in" with the diet reply.
Until your message...
Here's our story...
I am a ketogenic survivor parent. We committed to the diet 10 years ago, my
son got well and we never looked back. We were (and still are) truly blessed.
We did the diet for the recommended 2 years. Form the beginning his
seizures, (head drops up to 50/day with some grand molls) stopped completely,
his
medication was slowly weaned and his MRI's / brain activity returned to normal.
He has not had a seizure since December of '96. He is now 13 and enjoys his
life as like a typical teen.
While everyone's situation is unique we recommend it to any parent trying to
make the decision between medication or the diet.
Get educated. Buy/ rent books, look on the net, talk to other parents. The
diet may not "cure" your child but at the very least might decrease the number
of seizures and lesson the medication.
Watch the video "First do No Harm" (Meryl Streep). It was made by producer
-dad in Hollywood who's son "Charlie" was put on the Ketogenic diet. It came
out when we had first started. The diet has been around a long time but at
that time, was being promoted even more.
Here's my advice that was given to me one cold and rainy day about 10 years
ago...
"Don't wait another day- call now!"
Someday you may very well be passing along these same words to another parent
depseratly seeking help on behalf of their child.
Good Luck and God Bless!
~Sincerely,
Ketogenic Parent Veteran
