My daughter is almost 15 and has been on the diet for 6 months now. I try to
make her meals as much like ours as I can. In Ohio . . . that means gravy. It
is a little tricky, but once you get it figured out it is easy. If you have a
chicken, vegetable, butter and cream. You can make chicken in mushroom gravy or
pork chops and gravy. You cook the chicken first. Then fry the chicken and
mushroom in the butter. When it gets boiling a bit you ad the cream and stir
for just a minute or so . . .an wala you have gravy. The same thing works for
sausage and gravy. (Brits recipes generally have butter and oil . . .but it
works the same)
Our dietician also gave us a pizza recipe with egg whites, spaghetti sauce,
pepperoni, cheese, cream and oil. My daughter ads her "free olives" sometimes
to have a deluxe pizza as she calls it. Brit can have 15 gr. of free lettuce
which helps to make her feel more full. We use the lettuce to make turkey or
chicken wraps. We also have a salami and cream cheese and a bologona and
mustard recipe. They work great for school lunch boxes!!
Have his parents keep talking to the dietician. Most are pretty good about
wanting to make the food so the kids don't totally dislike it.
There is also a program on the internet that helps you calculate meals.
Hospitals don't like you to use it, but I use it and then give it to our
dietician to check and adjust the meals to her liking.
Good luck . . the diet is hard work, but definitely rewarding when it works! -
