Re: [Keto Kids]- Melissa

Hi, Melissa. The Ketogenic Diet was definitely our answer, too, and my Noah was
seizure-free by the time we left the hospital for keto initiation. He was almost
8 months seizure-free and *to our shock!* he had a seizure. It turned out that
he had an ear infection we didn't know about it and appeared to be at the end of
it when he had the seizure. He was put on antibiotics and we watched him VERY
closely and he was fine- never saw anything else. He's been fine ever since! Has
your daughter been sick recently with any infections or had her ears checked ?
Noah never showed signs of an ear infection- that's why we didn't know he had
one. The diet is a treatment just like the meds- it can have a honeymoon period
and maybe the ratio needs to be adjusted - is height the same? Any growth
spurts? The meds can be affected or she may be immune to her dose- it could
become ineffective in some cases. Do you stay connected with your dietician?
Stay on it and try to find if there has been ANY
change in your routines or anything- new toothpaste, anywhere someone could be
sneaking something in to her, etc. I do hope you get to the bottom of it!
Obviously the diet was working and should work again!

My daughter has been on the Keto diet for a few months
now. At first it really looked like the answer to her
seizures.(she went from 15 to 20 seizures a day to 0
to 5 a day in 5 weeks) But now we are starting to see
an increase of seizures. We looked at all the meals
plans, made a change, looked at meds, changed to Milk
of Mag, and now I'm not sure where to go. All her labs
are good. She is on Depakote and its in range. Her
weight is held steady at 44.6 pounds. (she is a little
thing at 10 years old) She is as active as ever,
sleeping well and babbling. So if anyone has any
suggestions please let me know. We have been working
with the doctor and all.

Thanks

Melissa
