Hi,
Yes the diet works then we pumped it up another notch and added protein shakes
which are milk, protein powder(really just for preference of flavor) and what
really did it was the raw eggs (they must BE organic preferable and from a farm)
the reason I say organic, there is a huge difference and the reason I say farm
is because there is a HUGE difference from the grocery store and a farm fresh.
The raw eggs gave the added protein that my boy needed, the Keto diet he did
really well on but to stay strict on it for over 3 weeks was hair pulling for
us. You can read more at

Dear Jocelyn,
My son is five years old and has had seizures (Doose Syndrome) since he was 1
1/2! After several attempts on meds, we decided to try the Ketogenic diet in
February 2007. Johns Hopkins in Baltimore does such a great job monitoring
levels, weight...everything ! My son hasn't lost a pound...the only thing he
lost was the amount of seizures he was having each day.
The diet is a lot of work; however, the benefits are worth it. He has a few
breakthrough seizures every couple of months or so...only taking 1 med- on a
decreased dosage.
We are dealing with developmental delays as well; however, on the diet we notice
that he is more alert. The meds can be so harsh to our children- so I just
figured what harm could a diet do!
I would suggest that you pray about it first! It's never easy to accept the
diagnosis and decide with direction to take. Please just remember that God has
given the strength you need for today- though sometimes it may be overwhelming
to deal with constant emergencies and fear of "what next"!
THE DIET WORKS!
Sincerely,
Mommiov2

Dear Jocelyn,
The ketogenic diet was the answer to our prayers. My son, diagnosised with
Lennox Gestalt when he was 3 1/2 started the diet when he was 4. 10 days after
starting the diet, he became seizure free. He was weaned off all his medication
and remaining seizure free he was weaned from the diet January 2007. He has
some catching up to do, but is doing wonderfully, dispite developing absence
seizures July 2007.
We took him to Children's Mass General in Boston when he started having the
absence seizures. He was put on the Low Glycemic Index diet. He is not
completely seizure free. - a couple of "eye rolls" every now and again, but
looks and acts just like every soon to be 9 year old,
There is another diet that has worked miracles for children with epilepsy and
that is the Modified Adkins diet. Dr. Kossoff out of Johns Hopkins Hospital in
Baltimore Maryland has dedicated his life to developing this less restrictive
diet. A friend of mine, has a child that is completely seizure free on this
diet.
Let me reassure you, although all diets can be difficult, they are well worth
the effort and sacrifice. To give your child a chance to have fewer seizures or
even be seizure free is priceless.
I only wished I had known about the ketogenic diet sooner and started him on it
right away. I believe we could have avoided some of the developmental delays he
suffered due to the seizures and multiple anti seizure medications he was on.
Please do research these other diets if your child can not do the ketogenic
diet. They offer much hope without the measuring, weighing of food and fluid
restrictions.
We are here to support you in this decision.
P.S. My son, although not hungry on the ketogenic diet, maintained his weight
and is very healthy.
Remember, with God all things are possible. Thelma (DJ's mom)
