To: jumprope@yahoogroups.com From: tiempofugo@... Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2003 03:23:19 +0000 Subject: [Jump Rope] i need jump rope basics
hi, i'm new to the group and new to skipping. I'm not into becoming a jump rope athlete or competitive, I'm way too old for that (34). I'm a male and didn't really skip much as a kid. I'm just interested in getting some of the basics to use skipping as a cardio excercise to burn some fat. My sister in law gave me a jump rope, i think it's a really good one, the handles are weighted and the rope itself looks like a rubbery, plastic kind of material, the brand is called "Weigh to Jump" (that's what it says on the handle. The basics I'm interested in knowing is:
1) is it good to do sets and then reps. what's a good starting point? (for example 100 jumps, 3 reps). How long in between reps?
2) what style of jumping is best, both feet, one foot at a time, alternating...? How do the boxers do it?
and any other advice would be helpful. thanks.

I am really happy for Ben on his records, however I would like to point
out that Tori Boggs from River Valley Skippers in the USA broke our US National
record and apparently the world record on June 25th and again on June 26th with
a score of 960 steps and 480 count in the US Age Group Championships and the US
Grand National Championships at Disney World.

RSC-Rivierenhof, broke two World Records (and also the European and Belgian

In 30 sec Speed Ben scored 94 (or 188 steps). And with this he finally equalled

In the 3 minutes Endurance Ben broke a second World Record by scoring 438
(which is a total of 876 steps)!

One Question I have often asked FISAC. Why arent Jumprope records officially maintained by Guinness Records (or any body which officially maintains all world records)

Final date for registration European

Last week we were informed by DGF that the final date for registration can be
as late as September 1st, 2006.
The date for final payment is set to September 15th.

Maximum participant European Masters
2005 increased to 5
November 24, 2005
Somebody remembered a communication within the ERSO-Rules Committee about the
number of participants per country for the European Masters 2006; FISAC-IRSF
has set it's maximum participants in the updated FISAC-IRSF-Rulebook to three.
And although ERSO is following as much as possible, this was one of the
exceptions for ERSO. After checking the ERSO-Rulebook, the ERSO-Rules Committee was consulted and asked
for their decision.
Indeed there has been made a mistake in updating the ERSO-Rulebook on July
31st, 2005. Unintentionally the section about the maximum number of skippers
per gender for the Masters wasn't updated.
Since there has not yet been any qualifications in Europe,
it is the decision of ERSO to correct this mistake as of Thursday November
24th, 2005. Also the ERSO-Rulebook
was updated with this in [CHAPTER VIII - ERSO - Adaptations] and set online.
This means that each country can send 5 male and 5 female skippers to the
European Masters 2006.
There is one man in the world we all know: "Mr.C. a.k.a. Mr Richard
Cendali"
And yes, we all hate him because he ruined our
lives by getting us
involved in "his" stupid rope! We don't have money anymore, no more family-life,
no more spare-time, just nothing then a stupid rope.
And it's all HIS FAULT!!!!!!!!
Nevertheless, I ask you a favour:
Mr "C" becomes Wednesday November 16th
60 years old. Let surprise him by
sending from all over the world a little e-mail, song, card,.... to him
next wednesday.
Yes we hate him, but at the same
time, we love him.

The European Championships in
Loughborough was a record-breaking event!!
August 2, 2005
Yesterday the records-page of FISAC-IRSF was updated. All Freestyle records are
removed because of the subjectivity in these records. But what a
record-breaking day it has been!!!! In total 5 World and 7 European records
were sharpened.
Single Rope Speed Relay: The Hungarian team of the Female Juniors set a NEW World (and also
European) Record!!! Exactly one year after the previous record was set by a
Hungarian Female team at the World Championships in Australia. In 4 times 30 seconds
the set a score of 351, which is a total number of 702 steps; an average of
5,85 steps per second!!!
Also the Belgian Male Seniors team set a new record. The four skippers scored 329 in the 120 seconds.
Double Under Speed Relay: The Hungarian Female Senior team sharpened the World and European
record, making it 340.
The Juniors from Belgian set the record in the Open division to 327.
Double Dutch Pairs Speed: By smashing the World record (set by USA
on July 24th, 2005) from 347 to 386 the Female Senior team from Hungary proved
that it will soon be possible to cross the 400-border for this event!!
The senior Male team from Belgium
was just 18 steps behind the Hungarian women; but their score of 377 gave them
also a new World and European Record.
Double Dutch Speed Relay: The Belgian Seniors in the Open division put 356 on the clickers,
making it a new European record.
Knowing that several records were sharpened by Junior-teams, it shows that the
limits have not yet been reached in Rope Skipping. And seeing how fast skippers
move their feet and ropes: The need for very fast and accurate counting is more
and more a must and not just a luxury.

ERSO goes FISAC-IRSF...
July 31, 2005
Last week in Loughborough the members of ERSO gave their OK at the General
Assembly to follow the FISAC-IRSF-Rulebook and adapt it to be used for future
competitions as of August 1st 2005.
The adaptation will be almost 100%. The differences will be communicated in the
Appendix that will be added to the FISAC-IRSF-Rulebook. Before we are going to
publish this we are going to wait until August 5th because of the E-mail we
received today:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Dear members,
As you know, the new 4-level skill-list will be available on August 1st 2005.
But we received today a full-worked-out proposal from an international group
who was at the European Camp in Loughborough.
We want to take this proposal serious and let it have the proper procedure.
Unfortunately, this takes some time.
Therefore, I want to inform you that we won't be ready August 1st, but we'll
try for August 5th. A few days
later won't change your life completely, I guess.
Whatever happens, you will be informed by an FISAC-newsflash, when the new
skill-list will be available on our website and in the rulebook.
Thanks for your understanding.
This means that the adapted Skilllist, the FISAC-IRSF-Rulebook and the
ERSO-Appendix will be available on the website as of August 10.

the program for everyone on the Monday evening. So everyone: Bring your

Ropes
Every camp all sessions in Camp all disciplines are being taught...
Every camp all skippers and coaches know that they must use their own ropes...
Every camp always ropes from others are being used... BRING YOUR OWN ROPE(S)!!!!
We can't and won't guarantee that there will be 'rentable' ropes during camp...
Skills
As all competitive skipper, coaches and NRSO's know: FISAC-IRSF will change
their skill-list from the 3-Level-system (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced) into
the 4-Level-system.
This will (most likely) be the same list as ERSO has on it's page, because as
far as we know this is the most complete and updated skill-list. Take a loot at
the list at the ERSO-site and go to [Skills].
Or use: http://www.erso.org/skills.htm!!
Here you can see that this list hasn't been updated since January 11th 2001.
That this list has an awful lot of skills that are levelled to high according
to today’s standard of skills of the skipper and the materials being
used.
For instance: 2.127 E.B., a.k.a. Sailor, Split Cross, Front/Back Cross. Can we
still consider this an Intermediate skill? Knowing that one can learn this
within half an hour; specially with long handles?!?! And have you seen that
numerous skills are not yet even mentioned in the list? Because skippers, coaches,
NRSO's and Rules committees had other priorities then taking care of this...
Then why bring this to your attention?! During Loughborough ERSO will come up
with it's proposal(s) to the FISAC-IRSF-Rules committee to update the
skill-list as of August 1st, 2005. EVERYONE can send in their proposal to Judging@.... In Loughborough we will
work with the proposals with a selected team to get the most complete and
up-to-date-list there is. We will also try to video register all new skills as
well as the missing skills. So grab this opportunity to influence the
growth of our Sport!!

Eu-Rope-Skip Junior and Senior Staff
Februay 23, 2005
Dear Board-members, Coaches, JuniorStaffers and skippers,
After last NewsFlash (dated February 18) several skippers and coaches E-mailed
BRSA or ERSO with the question on how to become a Novice-, Junior- or
SeniorStaffer for this years Eu-Rope-Skip. Because of this we publish the
procedure.
What are some of the qualifications?!
- (Almost) perfect speaking English
- Coaching skills and experience(s)
- Technical skills
More information is available at: the Matrix.
If you think your answers to the three previous questions are positive, then
there are several procedures:
1) You are interested as a person and you think you are qualified enough to
teach Level 1-2 or Level 3. In
this case you E-mail directly to Novice-Staff-2005@...
or Junior-Staff-2005@.... Best of
course would be to add your references to this E-mail. ERSO and BRSA will then
contact the NRSO (= National Rope Skipping Organization)
to ask their opinion about you. Not only technical and teaching skills, but
also financial standing (= no debts to the NRSO).
2) Your NRSO thinks you are capable, as well as available to be a Junior- or
SeniorStaffer. Your NRSO will contact you directly and ERSO or BRSA directly.
3) ERSO or BRSA thinks you are capable of fulfilling the job. Then we will
contact you first. This will be done in the week of March 1st! And when you
reply with a positive answer, then we will contact your NRSO.
4) If you think you have more skills and experience then the average, then you
can apply as Senior-Staffer. For this you mail to Senior-Staff-2005@....
If everything is positive, then you will be added to the list, which shows the
most up-to-date numbers of Staffers and participants to this years event. This
list will be on the ERSO-website, as well as in a regularly send NewsFlash.
Just as we did with Paris 2003!
Why should you do it?
- Because you don't earn any money; except that you won't have to pay your food
and housing from 23rd to 28th July. (So for you who can not calculate that
fast: GBP 225.00 for (max) 20 hours teaching = GBP 11.25 = Euro 16.61 per
hour...)
- Because you will be skipping again; and that's something you are already
doing the whole year through.
- Because you meet others; but then you'll have to talk at least English.
- THAT'S why you should do it!!!! Can you think of better reasons?!?!?
Sure you can!!! Spain
will be for the first time in ERSO-history present with teams and skippers!!!
Australians will join in again. As will American and Canadian skippers and
coaches. But also skippers from all over Europe
will be present again!
So don't hesitate and contact us!!
Just one fast suggestion. Look at the smaller airlines and book your ticket
now!! For instance: http://www.Thomsonfly.com.
Amsterdam - Coventry for just under Euro 70.00!!
I'm using a new, free service where I put in my contact info for you, you put in your contact info for me, and everyone stays up to date automatically. It's surprisingly easy and useful.
Thanks for your help.

Last week Outlook decided to minimize my
Outlook-Mail-file from over 600 Mb to 0 Kb……
This means that I had to re-install my most recent
backup, which was done early June 2004.
Why am I telling you this?!
1)Make
back-ups weekly!!! It doesn’t take too much time (as a matter of fact: I
learned last week there is an automated piece of software to take care of
this…)!!
2)Any
communication between you and me between then and last week is lost!! If there
is ANYTHING I should have answered but didn’t, then this is the time
again to provide me with that data!!

AUDITIONS 2005!
Dear
colleagues, December
29, 2004
Cirque du
Soleil is now casting roles in its ten current productions and upcoming
creations such as its sixth resident show - an unprecedented live theatre
production celebrating the musical legacy and extraordinary experience of The Beatles. We wish to inform you that in February2005,
we will be holding acrobatics & circus
artsauditions in London.
In April 2005, some 60 candidates hailing from
around the globe, with backgrounds in various sports and circus disciplines,
will be invited to the General Training
Program.
With the
number of shows growing, you can easily imagine how many new artists we need to
fill new roles, fill permanent or temporary replacements, play back-up
positions, etc.
Cirque du
Soleil Casting team is specifically seeking:
Since 1984,
Cirque du Soleil has carved out a special niche for itself in the world of
performing arts. Through a mix of street performance and circus arts, dance,
theatre, music and singing, Cirque du Soleil has given life to a magical new
universe. With its original music and performances, Cirque du Soleil always
tries to challenge the very limits of the human body and spirit. Each of its
shows is built around its own unique concept with music played by live bands.
Do you know
any talented individuals interested in joining Cirque du Soleil? Feel free to
tell them about us. We are always eager to discover new artists. You will find attached the audition notice available
for posting.
Please contact
us at any time for additional information. We would be glad to answer your
questions.
