I feel that in regard to speed, the ladder method works best (working
your way up to longer times and repetition, right?) and the same goes for
power. As for competition vs. performing and I was asked this recently...I
guess I would chose performing, even though I love competing. I like
freestyles and in competition, at least with USAJRF you have to have certain
elements (not that I'm against them, I believe they make a jumper well
rounded). When you perform you have more freedom to do what you wish and
even with my shyness I like the feel of a crowd. The high points of
competition are definitely the goals you work towards and how well you
achieve them, especially if you're working in a team.
I have a question though, most of the teams I know of pick one path to
follow for competition. How early do you start to prepare and how do you
keep track of the changes in requirements? Also, do any of you practice year
round without breaks?
Just a few thoughts...
