SPRING/SUMMER WORKSHOPS 2007

SHIATSU: March 7-8
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE I (Torso): April 21-22
ASIAN BODYWORK FOR THE TABLE: May 16-17
TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE: July 16-22

March 7-8 (Wed / Thurs): Shiatsu
9am-6pm, Sebastopol, $185.00, 16 hrs
This is an introduction to the traditional Japanese healing art of Shiatsu. This
name
translates as finger pressure. It is a three-year program to become a registered
Shiatsu
therapist with the Japan National Ministry of Health. In this workshop we will
learn how to
be comfortable doing bodywork on the floor. You will learn to release some major
Tsubo
(acu-points) with your fingers, hands, elbows, knees, and feet! We will consider
the basics
of meridians and the traditional energetic healing systems of Asia.

April 21-22 (Sat / Sun): Deep Tissue Massage I (Torso)
9am-6pm, Sebastopol, $185.00, 16hrs
This class will work with an eclectic blend of deep tissue massage therapy
techniques. We
will work with deep tissue lubricants and lowered massage tables. We will teach
positioning and specific strokes in prone, supine , and side lying position. We
will explore
the spine, shoulders, thoracic, lumbar, hip, and neck. These strokes are great
for reaching
those chronic areas on your clients. The class will be taught stroke by stroke,
naming the
musculature. We will explore indications and contraindications. Body Mechanix
coaching is
an integral part of this workshop.

May 16-17 (Wed / Thurs): Asian Bodywork on the Table
9am-6pm, Sebastopol, $185.00, 16hrs
Learn a table blend of several Asian bodywork styles including Shiatsu, Thai
Massage, and
Tui Na. Students will work with clothing. We will sit, kneel and stand on the
massage table.
We will demonstrate the powerful effect of compression on major energy centers
in the
body. We will incorporate some gentle passive stretching. Many spas offer Asian
bodywork
on the table in the form of Acupressure and Shiatsu. Clients feel integrated and
energized
by this work. It is also a great energizing workout for the therapist!

July16-22 (Mon-Sun): Traditional Thai Massage Workshop with Tim Holt, CMT, RTT
9am-6pm, Sebastopol, $700.00, 50 hrs

A few facts about Thai Massage:

It is now offered in the top spas throughout the world.
The International Spa Association calls it "the hottest item on the spa menu."
Thai massage is featured locally at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa, the
Spa
Hotel Healdsburg, and Osmosis, The Enzyme Bath Spa.

Traditional Thai Massage is an act of meditation for both giver and receiver. It
is a
beautiful form of bodywork performed on a supportive floor mat. The receiver is
fully
clothed. It incorporates applied Hatha Yoga and Chinese acupressure. It is
luxurious,
challenging, intimate, and deeply therapeutic. You will learn the Chiang Mai
style, as it has
been practiced in the Wats (temples) for almost 2500 years. Our focus for this
workshop is
a professional training for Massage Therapists and Yoga instructors. We will
teach a full
body two-hour treatment in a demonstration - practice format. Students will
learn Thai
Massage sequences in the supine, prone, and side-lying positions. This workshop
features
50 classroom hours of instruction and practice. Students will receive a
California State
BPPVE certificate of completion.

Tim Holt, CMT is a Registered Thai Therapist and Instructor with the Thai
Healing Alliance
and member of the AOBTA. He is director of the new East West Massage School in
Sebastopol. He has studied in Chiang Mai ,Thailand with several respected
teachers, holds
a Teacher Training Certification from I.T.M. He has been practicing Traditional
Thai
Massage for 12 years.

Abby Bard is Certified Massage Therapist. She is the owner of the Upstairs
Studio in
Sebastopol, Ca. She has studied Traditional Thai Massage in Chiang Mai ,
Thailand and
practices Thai Massage at Osmosis , the Enzyme Bath Spa and in her private
practice. She
is also a gourmet Thai cook.

This workshop will be held at the Upstairs Studio in Sebastopol, Ca. It is a
wonderfully
supportive workshop environment where students can relax in the garden or walk
into
town on breaks. This seven-day workshop will conclude with a celebration Thai
feast!

FALL WORKSHOPS 2007:

Deep Tissue II: Fall 2007 (Extremities)
9am-6pm, Sebastopol, $185.00, 16 hrs
This class will work with an eclectic blend of deep tissue massage therapy
techniques. We
will work with deep tissue lubricants, on a lowered massage table. We will teach
positioning and specific strokes in prone, supine, and side lying position. We
will explore
the extremities, focusing on the joints of the wrist, elbow, ankle, and knee,
including
detailed work on the feet and hands. These strokes are great for reaching those
chronic
areas on your clients. We will integrate this extremity work with the whole
person. The
class will be taught stroke by stroke, naming the musculature. We will explore
indications
and contraindications. Body Mechanix coaching is an integral part of this
workshop.
