Good points, David!
I can only speak from experience: the years I didn't have the traps, I was
stung two years in a row near my garbage cans. Since using the traps, I haven't
been stung and by half-way through the Summer, there are usually no more wasps
on or near my property.
For me, I need to go on the offensive while home. I am extremely allergic and
can't sit inside the house with two young kids running around. When
travelling, I just avoid. When camping, I hang a couple traps about 50' away
from my RV.
Best regards,
Mike

from it and there are many more wasps that do not get caught compared to those
that do. If you were being pestered by bears whilst camping I don't think you
would deliberately attract them to your camp in order to control them! I think
it is also a great shame to kill the queen wasps and bees because these species,
particularly bees, are truly endangered species and a great number of the
trapped queens may well have built a nest quite a way from your home.

in the season but use them if you must away from the house. I think the best
traps are the ones you can make from large soda bottles - they are two liters
here in Europe but I am not sure what size they would be in the US. There are a
number of sites that offer the same basic instruction which even someone as bad
at DIY as myself is able to follow!

Thanks in advance.

would go on the offensive. :)
