Re: [insectstings] New here - Immunotherapy shot issue

Hi Melanie,

I think you will find that most people here have some sort of side effects to the shots - but usually not allergic ones.

My guess is that your response is your body's reaction to having a very nasty cocktail of poisons injected into it and whilst the dose is still small it is amazing how sensitive some people can be to these start up doses.

Other people here definitely feel flu like after their shots, some have swelling in the arms, some have none - we all do tend to react a bit differently.

I hope that helps a bit - but mention it to your allergist anyway.

Do you take anti-histamine before the shot?

David

Subject: [insectstings] New here - Immunotherapy shot issue

Hi!

I was hoping that someone might provide a little insight on a reaction
I keep having to venoms. I'm allergic to both yellow jacket venom and
honey bee venom, and am currently going through immunotherapy for
both. The trouble is, as the doses get larger (even the 3rd round of
testing to see if I WAS allergic to the stuff), I feel a sort of ache
in my wrists and lower arms on whatever arm got the venom. My skin is
a little hypersensitive for a short while after the injection, but
nothing unbearable.

I'm seriously considering mentioning this to my allergist at my next
injection (I've only just completed my 3rd round of shots), but I'm
curious if anyone else has had this reaction, or if anyone has any
insight as to what could be causing it.

It isn't on any side-effect list, or reaction list I've read, and thus
is a bit of a puzzle to me.

Any insight would be welcome, even if it's just to confirm what I'm
thinking already - that I need to bring this up to my allergist at
round 4.

Thanks!
~Melanie
