collects wasps for ALK-Abello for immunotherapy he got stung by a
yellowjacket and had a massive allergic reaction!!!he had to stop
collecting for the season that was two summers ago since then he has
gone on immunotherapy and continued collecting wasps and been stung
since then with no problems!!!!i spoke to another beekeeper who
almost died twice from stings but did not want to give up
beekeeping!!she does apitherapy she read up on how to desensitize
herself with live bees she said it was scary to do but it worked!!
she would take a live honeybee with a pair of tweezers and let the
bee start to sting her and each day a little more until the stinger
lodged in her skin then she would scrape the stinger out in one
second then 2 seconds until she could leave the stinger in for 15
minutes she said now she gets stung at least once a week to keep the
venom in her system and in the winter she will sting herself once a
month its been almost 5 years since with no reactions!!!!!!And as
far as stings in beetween shots over here in the U.S. they will
continue giving the shots!!!David Golden said even if he gives a
live bee or wasp sting challenge in his clinic he will still give
the maintenence dose that same day he said hes done this in hundreds
of his patients over the years and never had a problem so far!!!he
also stated the maintenence dose should not be replaced by a live
sting since it is immunogecoly its only half of a bee maintenence
dose or less than one tenth of a wasp maitenence shot!!!!! Rich
