Hi Rick,
Welcome to the club to which no one wants to belong - Anaphylaxis
Anonymous!
I am David the person behind the insect stings website and I hope
you will find loads of answers to all your questions on the site or
in this message board. My main message is that you are right - do
not just carry an epipen around with you because that is not, in my
books, an acceptable solution. If you get stung again it may, or
may not, work and why take that risk when there is a perfectly good
treatment out there that works and is available on the NHS in the UK
called venom immunotherapy. It takes place in your local hospital
and works with the great majority of people.
Wasp and bee allergies are one of the few allergies that can be
treated so don't despair and hide away from the summer but get out
there and bang on your Doctor's desk for some treatment.
My experience with lots of other victims is that most GPs know very
little about this treatment and some even think it is dangerous.
Well, being stung for someone like you may be far more dangerous and
you should badger away to get this treatment with a consultant
immunologist or allergist.
Good luck and keep us posted!
David
