A friend and neighbour warned me that she had found 2 wasps ,very sleepy but very much alive, in her bathroom last Monday.
I think that we've had only about 6 weeks respite here in Sussex! Hope the chill will kill them off! The winds only killed off the fence!!!

I can beat that - we were cleaning out our conservatory/ sunroom a week ago and there was a huge queen hornet (Vespa Crabro) on the floor very slow moving but definitely alive!
I also saw our first queen bumblebee of the year yesterday - Bombus Lucorum - feeding off our winter flowering heather. That is at least two weeks earlier than any previous year for an outside observation so one of the disadvantages of global warming (along with many many others of course) is that the stinging insect season may eventually get longer and longer.
Happy new year to everyone!

Just setting the scene - Sunday evening, 8pm, relaxed and quietly
reading the Sunday papers when my husband opens a rucksack and out
flies a HUGE wasp. complete silence in the room! It flew into a wall
light and looks like it frazzled - either that or its making a
nest .....
Wonder if the strong winds we have had will have blown them all away -
heres hoping ...
