Barry, yes, I remember having really great days followed by not so
great days. You do have your ups and downs as you go through
treatment and even during the months that follow treatment. Just
remember that improvement can be seen for up to a year after taking
the antibiotics, so have positive thoughts and keep us posted!

Melanie, that was me. So used to being sick four to six times a year
that it didn't even phase me anymore, it was just my way of life.

So glad you're doing well. If you haven't already done so, talk to
your friend about the possibility that her daughter has asthma caused
by bacteria. No kid should suffer like that. A neighbor of mine had
a son who suffered from two years until fourteen years of age and he's
been cured using Dr. Hahn's protocol, too. Hopefully, she won't have
to suffer as long as he did.

Melanie, I've talked to Dr. Hahn about silent carriers and he said
that while he's not sure, it's an interesting and possible concept.
He even treated one friend of mine while treating her son because he
thought this might have been the scenario.

Glad you're doing so well now!!

Gina, it does sound like your asthma is either worst because of
bacteria, or caused by bacteria.

I've been in contact with many doctors in the U.K. who are not at all
open to this, despite the links to research I've emailed them. I
can't recommend your ordering drugs online, but I will say that
several people I know finally did just that and found great relief
when they did.

I believe I know of another place you might order from that's actually
in the U.K., but I don't have your complete email address and I would
rather send you the information privately. Please post your email
address so I can send that off to you.

Nora, if you log into the group, rather than just reading the messages
through email, you'll find on the left side of the page Files and
Links. All the information you want is there.

I don't know how far Rhinelander is from Madison, but if you can get
there, it might be best to make an appointment with Dr. Hahn. If you
google Dr. David Hahn, Madison, WI, his number at Dean East Clinic
will come up. If not, try to get your doctor to call him on your
behalf, and show him the sheet from Dr. Hahn directed to other doctors
explaining the protocol. It's in the Files section.

If asthma meds don't seem to help and you find yourself on prednisone
and antibiotics a lot, it's very likely you have infectious asthma, or
asthma caused by bacteria. Frustrating, I know, but that's good news,
since you may find your asthma gone once you treat the bacteria that's
probably causing it.

I'm going to answer some questions here, but before I do, I wanted to
once again apologize for not being here. I finally figured out that I
find this Yahoo group setup difficult to manage, so I'm creating a
blog we can all move to once I'm done. I'll make it my homepage, just
delete any spammers so nobody needs approval to post and it should be
much easier for me to handle.

I will post a link to the blog as soon as I'm done with it. In the
meantime, let me go answer some of your questions.

Glad you are doing so well. I have been on azythromicine now for about 3 months but had a patch of not being on it as I could not get hold of the antibiotic. I cannot get them on prescription so I have to order them over the internet. But I must admit that I am feeling better in myself. I now just have to get rid of all the weight I put on on steroids! I also wonder if my inhalers could have an effect on my weight too. But I am afraid I have not stopped taking them. Taking just a much but a slight improvement is visible however, I think all the weight I have put on 4 stone in the last 3 years is one of my breathing problems as I have exercise induced asthma mainly. It is like a vicious circle but I am determined to lose weight.

good luck

Actually, it's different in every person, and some people may find
little difference after twelve weeks of treatment, but then find
themselves off all asthma meds in the months to come. Improvement is
seen for up to a year following treatment.

Oh yah, I think you are ordering from where I got
mine. You buy 4 and get one free. On the website it
says they are expiring soon, but when I got my
packages, they had a 2008 expiry date on them. So
don't let that deter you.

Hi Gina,
You have to take 750 mg for 3 days in a row and then one day a week but for 11 weeks or more if you didn't feel good(Jim Quinlan -www.asthmastory.com took 16 weeks of azithro).
You'll going  to feel better after the 5 week .I don't know about the price,I  have a special prescription from my doc and it was not  so expensive .

Hi

Thanks for your reply and it has given me some hope that this is
perhaps a mix between infection and a dog we aquired a year ago. I am
allergic to dust through an allergy test and he is dropping hairs and
raking up dust on the carpet like a mad thing when he runs about bless
him. Well hopefully when I get my infection sorted out with the
azythromicine the dog won't be such a problem. But just to let you
know why my doctor prescribed COPD - THIS IS ENGLAND!!! - Our medical
care is poo! The doctor sees low response to spyrometry and the fact
that I smoked for 20 years and diagnoses COPD. I have no confidence in
that doctor any more he has regigged my meds and now even they are not
so good. I was on combivent and seratide and he has changed it all.

Well I am going this morning to see another partner in the practice.
Wish me luck.

Thanks

Gina

I didn't find Zith that expensive, as you only take a
certain amount every week. I orded mine online and it
worked out to about $7 a pill. Which is nothing if you
sit down and work out what you really spend on wine,
coffee, junk food, cigarettes, potato chips, steak or
those other things not so good for your health, and
everyone has their weaknesses somewhere and can cut
back on the budget. If you want to think of costs that
way, and this is to benefit your health.

I'm doing way so much better now. I have barely even
had any hayfever this spring.

Something strange that happened was that I broke up
with my boyfriend in October and suddenly, all the
infections stopped. I later found out he had been
visiting friends in hospitals at least 3 times a week
the past year. Great for them, but I think he was
bringing infections back to me, though he displayed no
symptoms. One of them was staph, which is quite common
from a hospital. I haven't been sick since October.

So is it possible there is someone you are around who
is a silent carrier? If you have a poor immune system
you have to be really careful to limit contact with
any sick people. When I go to my doctor's I actually
wait in the hallway until I can go into the exam room,
and the MOA totally understands. I scrub my hands down
after I leave there. I'm sure you understand the
paranoia we go through now!

I hope you feel better soon and I would order the zith
if I were you. It was great and gave me no side
effects.

Kim, I had mine for over thirty years and I was treated with Dr. Hahn's
protocol almost four years ago.

The treatment with Azithromycin takes only twelve weeks, and Dr.
Wagshul's takes longer. I faxed over a bunch of questions about his
protocol last week, and I will post his reply when I get it. I know
that people who were on his protocol were on it for a minimum of nine
months, and some over a year. I think he treats them for three months
at a time, but I don't know if he changes the medication, etc. Those
are some of the questions I have.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Hahn's treatment with Azithromycin and
see what happens. If it doesn't work, you can always try Dr. Wagshul's.

Which works better, Dr. Hahns or this doctor? I've had severe asthma since age 5. I'm 42.. I want it gone :) Thanks Kim

Dr. Wagshul is having his protocol typed up and sent to me later this
week. I should get it by Friday and will post it as soon as possible,
and also add it to our Files section.

They were extremely nice and helpful there, and I'm just so happy to be
learning more about this.

Tina, I don't think five weeks of intense antibiotics would have
necessarily killed this off. I would still try Dr. Hahn's protocol.

What "other meds" is he talking about?

Elena, I used to have good days and bad days, too, and I would be so
worried that it wasn't working. You just have to hang in there, and as
you said, what else can you do?

I don't know why there is that inconsistency during, and following,
treatment, but most of us experience it. You go a week and think
you're in the clear, only to have three or four bad days, followed by
another good week. I guess our lungs just need time to heal.

Great to hear from you - thanks for the update!

Hi there everyone. I hope you are all doing well.

I have seen my GP about infectious asthma and the possibilities of
taking zithro. I gave him all the handouts to look at. He took a
glace and told me he is willing to give it a try. However he wants to
first try me on more different meds to see if it helps.

That is a bit frustrating but I can be patient for a little med
tryout. Now his reasoning was what confused me. I had ended up in
hospital a few years ago for three weeks with a weird lung infection
that was behaving like pnuemonia but the x-rays were clear. My wbc
count was extremely high so they knew there was infection somewhere.
I was on IV antibiotics of all types, including zithro for those 3
weeks and sent home with oral antibiotics for another two weeks. My
GP doc says he has doubts about it being infectious asthma since all
those treatments in and out of hospital for five weeks would have
killed off any lingering bacteria.

It was alot af antibiotics, so could this be true? Should i still
attempt a run at this or do I look into something else now?

-Tina

How is everyone doing? Can we get some updates on
those who are on antibiotics, or have finished them?

Any questions from new people?

It's too quiet here. ;)

Hey Al,
Well I am not sure about the spitting up blood thing. Unless there
is just so much drainage that your sinuses are bleeding. Do you see
an allergist or a pulmonary doc or an internist? I totally agree
with Maureen that specialist such as pulmonologists are usually very
closed minded. Dr. Robinson in the Macon area is supposed to be very
good. I have used Advair in the past and it is great also there is
a new one out called Asmanex and it is wonderful too. Love it! I
have been able to taper off most of my steriods and I think it is
from the Asmanex and the Azithromycin. The Mucinex is good and I
think you should find that it will help keep the mucous moving so
you don't feel quite as congested. Have you had a sinus study done
recently? That could answer some questions about the constant
drainage. The weather here in Middle Georgia has really been so
unpredictable lately that even the flowers can't make up their minds
whether or not they are going to bloom. I have daffodils in my yard
that are blooming right now and it is just February! So I think it
is tough for a lot of allergy sufferers because things are in bloom
that really shouldn't be right now.

it all. the cough hasnt stopped in over a year now, in the past 4
months its gotten really bad, had to drop out of choir. I have the
tightness in the chest and neck. and glands on both sides of my neck
swell at times. I have the shortness of breathe. and the excess
mucus. at nite when i sleep of course i am swallowing so about
every two or three days i have these throwing up spells to get the
mucus out of my stomache because it cant process it. heres what I
dont understand.....when I lie down for several hours and get up I
spit blood. usually not a lot but any is too much. sometimes its
just pink others it is almost solid red. sometimes throwing up it
is blood mixed too and the same sometimes not much sometimes solid
red. and why am I spitting non-stop? it has come to the point I
have to take a cup nearly everywhere I go.

improvements except it seemed the albuterol was helping.
