"Tomato pill beats heart disease": http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8076556.stm
But actually tomato paste is just as good, so don't waste your money! Here is
the actual study: http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/132/3/404
The compound has been named "lactolycopene" which is lycopene bound with whey
proteins.
The question is: what is the point in simply lowering LDL cholesterol? If LDL
cholesterol is a marker for underlying inflammation does lycopene reduce the
inflammation or does it just magically lower LDL?
It seems like it might be worth ingesting tomato paste in any case as it can
protect skin against sun damage!
