Discussion group for practitioners in relation to the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and associated United Kingdom and European mental health law.

The Institute of Mental Health Act Practitioners (http://www.imhap.org.uk/) was founded in 1990 as the Association of Mental Health Act Administrators. With an increasingly diverse membership, reflecting the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working within mental health these days, it was decided at the AGM in April 1997 to reflect the changes in working practice by broadening the membership and changing the name of the Association to the Institute of Mental Health Act Practitioners, IMHAP.
IMHAP was registered as a Charity and Limited Company in June 2000 as its aims quite clearly benefit patients who are or may be liable for assessment and treatment under Mental Health legislation.
