Portia,
I know how FRUSTRATING the bags can be. Try this.....I take the eakin seal and
cut it in half (I use the large ones but you can use your judgement on the size)
and then fold it over on itself and create a "snake" shape. I then wrap it
around the skin on the outside of the stoma. I then have the wafer already cut
to the shape of my stoma and maybe just a tiny bit larger than the stoma so I
can put it on. The eakin shaped like this fills in any gaps from the wafer so
you do not have to be so precise on cutting the wafer. The stoma will bleed at
the drop of the hat and any little bumping it or anything causes it to bleed.
Mine bleeds sometimes just from wiping drips with toilet paper. Hopefully that
helps some. Let me know if you need more info or need to talk or vent.

I am new to the group. I have a 6 month old son who has an ileostomy.
I am having the hardest time with his stoma. I am using convatec two
piece system with eakin seals underneath. His stoma is a little less
than 1 inch but I cut the seal to 1 inch and I pull at the edges of
the eakin seal until it appears to be 1 inch. I hold it in my hands a
bit to warm it up and then I beg a child that cannot speak to PLEASE
NOT POOP so it will be dry so the wafer will stick. I have gotten
pretty good at getting it dry so that the thing will stick but now my
biggest problem is the damn thing bleeds it's like the wafer bumps the
stoma and pisses it off. I tried cutting the wafer to have a much
bigger hole than he needs and that only tore the skin around the stoma
up. Please someone tell me what the hell I am doing wrong. My poor boy
is having to have his whole pouch system changed 2-3 times a day.
Thanks in advance!
