Sara,
Our daughter Emily has a motility disorder that actually ended up causing her
to have a twist in her colon that caused her colon to rupture... she ended up
with an ileostomy. She had the surgery on February 28, and it took us about
5 or 6 weeks to really get things 'humming' with her. At first, it was very
overwhelming and frustrating because we couldnt' find a bag that would stick to
her skin, and the ileostomy fluid was so acidic and she was producing waaaaay
too much of it. Now that she is slowing down, she is soooo much better. We
found a system that works well for her and she is getting used to the
positives of it. Basically, her problem, like yours was chronic constipation...
and
with that the many illnesses..... so far, she has had a few 'slow' days, but
for the most part, she is moving better, particularly with exercise. It does
empty quite continually, but there are times of the day that are far less
active than other times.... her personal pattern is that she has to empty her
bag
a couple of times during the day (much the same as urination... oh, and she
also caths!), and then a number of times during the evening.
I wish you luck!
sue (mom to matt, 15, jen, 14, and emily, 9, mmh)
