I had my first child almost 2 yrs after being reconnected and had to on bed rest
for the last 3 mos. The body needs time to heal after that surgery. I was 19 and
could probably handle it better than now at 36, but I don't believe it reduces
fertility. Go to www.j-pouch.org there are a lot of forums about this exact
topic. You might get a better perspective from women going thru this right now.
Good luck..Susan

Subject: [The Ileostomy Group] Decisions about j-pouch
Hi, My name is Fiona, I am nearly 38 and live in Australia and have
lived with an ileostomy for two years. I had to have surgery due to a
twist in the bowel near the stoma site last year but this year I am
considering getting the jpouch operation (restorative proctectomy).
I am asking for advice since I know there is a reduction in fertility
during the recovery phase from the surgery and especially if there is
an infection or leak. I have no living children but I am not ready,
with my partner to have kids right at this point in time.
I would like to know if there are people who have had to go through a
similar thing and what they have been able, or preferred, to do.
Kind regards
Fiona
